This was the 2023 IPNC Weekend. We had a great group that gathered from Minneapolis and Seattle. Matt & Brenda, Lonny & Kim, and us flew out a day early to take advantage of the Portland and hit the Columbia River Gorge for some hiking. We had a pre IPNC dinner at the Joel Palmer House Thursday even with CHO Wines. We met up with the rest of the group Friday for IPNC festivities with Jason and Tracy, Siggy , Candace, Eric, and Adam. After IPNC the 6 of us headed to the coast for.a.c0uple more days. Thanks to everyone for making this a memorable weekend with great friends! And the wines, they were pretty awesome too :).

The palate shows ripe berries, sour cherry, funk, on a soft lighter medium bodied frame. A very pleaseant surprise. Nicely done!

Light gold color. Small pour at Grand Dinner. I found Berene Sauls and her wines to be quite engaging and a pleasant find. The pinot the night before at the Joel Palmer House was inttriguing and tasty. This chardonnay was fresh and bright, with green apple on the nose and lemon notes on the palate; steely and dellcious. I be happy to have these again.

Light gold color. Drank 2 glasses over an hour plus. Brought this to the Bistro in Cannon Beach. Wow, this was a head turner tonight. Beautufully toasted with a dulce de leche, creme brulee nose complimented by such pretty ocean air and wet stones, mixed with pear pastries. The palate is equally divine displaying the depth and intensity of a hallmark Champagne. I was amazed at how this just went on and on. Every bit as good as the best bottles of '04 and '06 we had over the years. Glad to have a stash. 96pts or better.

Pale gold color. Drank a couple glasses over 2 hours. Matt's bottle, at the Bistro in Cannon Beach. This was really expressive, showing purity and that crystalline focus, cool lemon, dynamic sea breezes with a pleasing note that I just can't quite put my finger on. Dark red color, I think - hard to tell in the moon light. Drank a couple glasses by fire light on Cannon Beach. What a glorious evening sitting with friends around the beach bonfire. This hit the spot perfectly in the crisp evening air. Better than anything through the IPNC weekend. A stellar wine drinking at the best it has in recent years. The nose is deep and sappy, with red and black berries, damp forest floor, exotic spice notes and floral potpourri overtones. The palate exudes everything the nose brings, earthy, layered berries with underlying mineral tones and impressive texture and length. Pretty sublime...well done Mr. V. This can go for awhile.

Dark red color. PNP, drank two glasses over an hour. Lonny's bottle, and a great way to cap off an excellent dinner at the Bistro in Cannon Beach. Love this nose, there's layers of minerality, graphite, dry earth, more subtle dark fruits with a slight vegetal note that gradually show some pretty, deep red berry notes and rose petals. The palate has a strong vein of spice, graphite and iron, with leather, black cherry. This is dense, yet still lifted with medium grained tannins. Really in a good spot.

Pale gold color. Drank a glass plus over an hour plus. Brought this to The Stephanie Inn for dinner. Very much the picture of Chassagne elegance in a glass. Lemony sea breezes whisk you off to a happy place with chamomile and tarragon top notes and stone fruit accents on the nose. The palate follows through with the same wistful medium bodied elegance that is so understated yet suave and sophisticated: lemon with a lime twist, stone fruit, stone, and a great dry extract finish. Medium red color with a 5mm transition to clear. PNP, drank a glass over an hour at Le Pigeon in Portland. Oddly enough, it's been almost exactly 10 years since I had this last at Berstrom on another WV trip. This has developed nicely and shows such poise and class from a cool and wonderfully ageable vintage that I adore; and coming in at a delightful 12.75% ABV too. There's an emerging perfume here with wild strawberry, earth, mushroom, cherry, soil and ultrafine dried tobacco on the nose. The palate is medium bodied, elegant, strawberry, tart cherry, mushroom, a touch of iron minerality, and a cool crisp palate with fine grained tannins. Love this. 93+pts.
