Each taster was to bring a bottle, from anywhere, in the $25-$50 range to share during an informal walk around tasting. We used this as an opportunity to share some stuff folks may not otherwise encounter, eg older bottles & other varieties, in an attempt to expand some horizons.
NV Wycliff California Champagne

2012 Domaine Ostertag Riesling Muenchberg 91 Points
France, Alsace, Alsace Grand Cru
Walk around tasting. Our last bottle. Unripe peach and apple with petrol undertones. Hints of honeycomb as well. A favorite of the whites for many tonight, and one that many enjoyed compared to the "sweet" rieslings they were accustomed to.

2007 Pyramid Valley Pinot Noir Growers Collection Calvert Vineyard
New Zealand, South Island, Otago, Central Otago
Walk around tasting. A bit advanced showing toffee and subtle red fruit. This bottle was over-the-hill. Will open one of our last two bottles soon to see if this was a one-off or true indication of where this wine is at.

Walk around tasting. Not a pristine bottle. There's a red fruit quality hiding under a plastic/latex aroma. Better on the palate though.

2015 Guy Breton Morgon Vieilles Vignes

2001 Concha y Toro Cabernet Sauvignon Don Melchor 94 Points
Chile, Maipo Valley, Puente Alto
Our penultimate bottle, double decanted off its sediment an hour before the walk around tasting began. Somewhat youthful dark color belies its age. Black fruit with herb and loam undertones. Has a subtle green quality as well. A terrific showing- opened some eyes tonight.

1998 Château Duhart-Milon 90 Points
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
Walk around tasting. There's absolutely nothing wrong with this little 4th growth from a lesser vintage. Textbook Bordeaux with currants, tobacco and underbrush notes. Red berry fruit with softened tannin and balancing acidity. This was double decanted off its sediment an hour before the tasting began.
