Earthy, oranges, dusty chocolate and mint on the nose. Minimal bubbles but has great golden colour to it. Decent acid tang cleanses the palate, with some light fruit sweetness. Medium length. This was in excellent condition.
Orange, honey, lemon and ozone aromas. Superb acid line, clean, lifts the honeyed fruit right up. Lovely length as well. This is in a great spot now for drinking around its youthful peak, but it'll certainly hold if you like more development in your Champagne.
Headily aromatic - cherry, musk, lemon, floral and pear notes. Sizzling acidity, clean fruit, fantastic balance and depth of flavour. Awesome showing for this wine.
Toast, lemon, graphite, waxy and floral notes. Tangy acidity, has mid body with plenty of fruit intensity. Some grip as well. Quite a lot going on here and lots to like.
Dark golden colour. Wax, honeycomb, marzipan and ash. Palate is still fairly fresh thanks to the acid line that flows through. Complex flavours and texture. Drink now.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
Lemon, smoke, orange, laundry powder and oyster shells. Sweet fruit with lots of density but equal control - lots of acid keeping it in check. Clearly excellent but not a showstopper tonight.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Smoky, cherry, red berries and light herbs. Still shows some sweet fruit, with richness and palate presences. Very nice length, what a surprisingly good showing.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru
Delicate aromatics - stalks, redcurrant and earthy ash notes. Savoury on the palate, there is some red fruit flavour as well. Definitely time to drink based on this as everything is pretty much resolved.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
Red florals, musk, iron and ash. Sweet palate with both red and black fruits, seems like it has become more approachable, it is still powerful but the fruit seems settled and the balance is really showing well. More time of course will suit this but it's starting to come into its own.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Musigny Grand Cru
Mineral, smoke, tobacco and cherry,. Firm palate with plenty of crunchy acidity and tart red fruits. Not a lot of joy to be had right now, but it should come with time.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru
Violets, black cherry, graphite and spice. Excellent balance and flow, this has an extra level of depth with the sweet and pure fruits. Delicious but also deep. Superb. Blew away the other red burgs tonight.
Sesame, caramel, VA, black fruits and red currant on the nose. Holding up really well on the palate, medium depth and with some red fruit still in place. Gets even better with a bit of air, showing a bit more depth and texture. This bottle was at its final peak.
Herbal, stewed fruit and menthol on the nose. Palate seems a little on the thin side, without too much depth or power behind it. Drinks okay, but doesn't live up to the producer.
Smoke, liquorice, tobacco, blackcurrant and a little bit of meaty barnyard notes to it. Palate is much cleaner, with sweet, rich fruit and plenty of structure sitting in behind. Still too young to show its potential, but clearly a classy wine.
Liquorice, olive, blueberry, ash and cherry. Very tight on the palate, wound up power but also showing more depth than the 2005 Haut Brion at this stage. A little further along in maturity but still a lot of time left in the tank.
Graphite, mineral, cherry and light smoke on the nose. Sweet fruited with olives and tannic kick. A powerful, dense palate but plenty of structure to prop it up. Impressive, young wine.
Red berries, tobacco, ash and black cherry. Textured but also tannic, this has very tightly wound fruit. Definitely needs more time to show its best side.
Liquorice, red currant, blood, iron and spice on the nose. Palate is extremely tightly coiled, this is power incarnate just waiting to be unleashed. Primary, with depth and savoury spice throughout. Give it time!
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Herbal notes, cedar, redcurrant and plum on the nose. The palate is delicious, there is freshness behind it, but also great depth and excellent length. Balanced and full, this should really impress in time.
Smoke, cherry, plum, blackberry and olives. Dense and powerful palate, this is strongly intense right now, with enough structure to keep it in control currently. Long and brimming with potential.
Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Amarone della Valpolicella Classico
Aromatically full on - kirsch, blackberry and blackcurrant, leather and five spice with toast as well. Intense, punchy flavour, with drive and depth. Really impressive character alongside the intensity of the wine.
Marmalade, lemon, red berries and spice. Delicious on the palate, sweet with plenty of acidity pushing the wine through and giving it freshness. Fantastic condition and lovely drinking.
Orange, mandarin, spice, kiwi fruit and pear on the nose. A wave of sweetness that envelops the palate but is kept moving but tangy acidity that lifts the orange fruit profile. Brilliant length and drive.
Lemon, orange, apricot, coconut and smoke. Palate is tangy, with superb acidity that cleanses through and compliments the amazingly pure fruit. Brilliant flavour and depth here, this is extra-incredible wine among a line up of incredible wines.
Honey, graphite, lemon, orange and a slightly earthy note. The palate is fresh, with cut and drive - you'd think the ripeness would stand out more, but it's so controlled and balanced. Lovely stuff.
