Mid straw. Quite a rich, oily texture, moderate viscosity. Surprisingly exotic on the nose alongside the usual kerosine notes. Whilst rich on the attack this is cut through with lime and shows quite dry on the mid-palate and finish. Long. Just a quick tasting sip, so probably underscored. ****

Slightly fuller and richer than the CFE, but not quite as nuanced or complex through the mid palate. Finishes well with just a hint of RS, though I suspect it’s just richness. ****

Deep and rich. Really quite exotic on the nose. Ripe, generously fruited and a really dense of off-dry padding. Complex. Needs rich food to shine. A bit with the audience. Beefing on the impressive but impractical. ****

Obviously lighter and sweeter than the Alsace trio. Quick tasting sip so not noted in depth, but seemed to have everything in place. Mid sweetness, good acidity and a frefreshing finish. ****

Quite light and bright. Good Pinot typicity, cherry to strawberry fruit. Bright if not complex finish. ***

Last of the case. Lovely bright, pure, vibrant strawberry fruit. Densely silky. A touch of orange zest too. Consistent with a bottle last month. Lovely and really quite serious despite its superficial charms. ****

Not the depth or persistence of the 09. As per previous bottle this starts a little clipped and short, but fills and lengthens somewhat. Still more slight of frame than in its youth, but a pleasant drink. ***

Pale ruby. Quite tight and lean with a slight tingle. A splash double decant releases the CO2 and reveals a bright strawberry scented nose and a smoother silky palate. Still quite tight with a mineral line, but starting to show some interest. Needs longer. Promising though. ***1/2

Mid ruby. Quite light, bright, and vibrant. Cherry and strawberry nose. Lovely fresh feel with a finely silky texture and bright line. This slips in to the Burgundian company effortlessly. ****

Similar light and bright style to the BR, but whilst they were quite similar on release the Gevrey is starting to pull away a little and show a little more earthiness. Refined and elegant. ***1/2

This remains a lovely wine. Relatively light and bright with strawberry fruit, the cranberry element in previous bottles diminishing, and the finely silky texture filling a little and adding a slight sheen of fine gloss. Sits very well with the Burgundies alongside. Long, nuanced and engaging. Fun too. Super. ****

A splash double decanted to release the CO2. Bright, slightly earthy strawberry fruit. A touch of red currant zip. Silky and really quite long. Lovely. ****

Deep, glossy and quite dark red fruit. Densely silky. Still quite plush. Very similar to previous bottle this time last year. Long and lovely. Poise too. ****

Mid to full ruby. Quite bright and light. Earthy, slightly meaty red berry fruit. A strawberry element too. Approachable but this has more development to come. Not any heavier than the other wines, even less so than the Vosne, but more silly nuance and depth. It’s there if you look but currently whispering rather than shouting. Potential. ***(*)

Just a little simple, and lacking line and elegance cf the rest of the field. Softer, a touch of cola. A hint of sweetness to the darker fruit character too, but also some decay that starts to hint at complexity. Perfectly decent but lacks precision or excitement. ***

This is really bouncing back from a medicinal, quite closed phase a year or so ago. Consistent with a couple of halves a few months ago, this is opening again to a creamy, coconut, slightly honeyed sweetness. Lovely.

NV Diebolt-Vallois Champagne Cuvée Prestige Blanc de Blancs 91 Points
France, Champagne
Magnum. 2012 base. This has come on a little further in the last year and is showing splendidly. Nicely fine, chalky minerality, with a powdery texture and a lovely line. Refined elegance. ****

NV Hugues Godmé Champagne Premier Cru Brut Réserve 88 Points
France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru
Magnum. 08 base. A fuller and rounder style cf the Diebolt alongside. More obvious sense of dosage too. Calms and rounds with air giving a fuller bodied wine with a hint of red fruit amongst the slightly broader Chardonnay. ***
