France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
tasting, brief note. Apple and lemon peel with faint floral hints and a very good richness and weight, with very good length. Fun already now, with upside from here.
Tasted double blind. Ripe and slightly blowsy with baked apple notes, just lacked a clear center of gravity. Probably much better when younger/ fresher
Tasted blind. Obviously Champagne with a Pinot orientation, this showed lots of apple and berry with toasted rye bread. Good power, good weight. Not as bright and dancing as I remember from 3-4 years ago. Disgorged April 2012.
Tasted double blind. Seemed to bridge Old and New World Pinot Noir styles, with plenty of mature, ripe fruit and textural energy. Moderate weight. Seemed older than a well-made 2002 Willamette, but consistent with my other notes on this same wine.
Served double blind to the tasting group. Half thought this Burgundy, which surprised me, but it clearly shows graceful aging, which isn't the hallmark of most US Pinot, Rich black and red cherry with very good overall balance and enough structure to keep it bright, fresh and long. Well done.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny
Tasted double blind. Charming nose, very ripe flavors that seems too fleshy and modern for good Burgundy. Very good density for its level, but not classic for me, at least not yet.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru
Tasted double blind. Clearly Burgundy in every respect. Stunning spice-driven nose that is so much of ripe Vosne coming through. Similar flavors, slightly more advanced and earthy. Clearly also showing Grand Cru density. I identified this from the correct decade as well. 94-95 point nose, 90-91 point flavors.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
Tasted double blind. Lingering red fruit with savory spice and braised meat. Very nicely balanced with good weight and length, even if not quite seeming to be Grand Cru density to me. Shows its age appropriately.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
Tasted double blind. Black cherry throughout comes across as somewhat ripe. Good length and concentration, but not quite showing Grand Cru density today. I've enjoyed previous bottles of this wine more.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
Tasted double blind. Black and red cherry with lots of spice and tannins, this clearly needs more time, but still seemed older than a 2005. I haven't had this wine since shortly after release, and was surprised when unveiled. Probably a "90 point" wine today, but clearly with upside.
Tasted double blind. Fully mature red cherry aromas, flavors. Strong burst of energy at the finish adds brightness, but detracts slightly from the balance. Seemed like a tiring 1970s Burg from a ripe vintage.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Tasted double blind. Thought this from NSG, but slightly older. Meaty and still tannic with very good length. Firm and backward, making it come across as somewhat foursquare. Needs more cellar time.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de Tart Grand Cru
Tasted double blind. Perplexing wine, this seemed so New World Pinot in ripeness and opulence, but Old World textures on finish. Very big, nothing coming across as roasted. Needs more time in the cellar, the structure is there to keep this vibrant. Certainly upside from here.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
Served double blind to the group. Dried and nicely mature red and black cherry with earth and mushroom. Lots of very softened tannins. Very elegant now, very good now. Probably no upside from here, but no urgency to drink up.
Tasted double blind, I thought this was ripe Villages level Burgundy. All red fruit with spice hints, moderate weight and very good balance. Best to enjoy now.
USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
Tasted double blind. Ultra ripe, particularly on the nose, with cherry cola oozing out. There is good concentration and high quality fruit, but not really I style that thrills me. Plus probably better when younger / fresher.
USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands
Tasted double blind. Very ripe with candied fruit, but able to carry it off with good enough density and borderline balance. Easy to ID as California Pinot and correctly identified as Central Coast.
USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills
Tasted double blind. I thought this a very good Vosne Villages. Spicy, rich black and red cherry with good weight and very good balance. Still bright and vibrant.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis 1er Cru
Tasted double blind. Clearly Burgundy, still firm, brooding and backward. There is very good concentration and raw material, just so little pleasure coming through yet. Needs lots of time in the cellar, certainly with 90+ point potential, 2020-? 2025-?
Tasted double blind. Ripe, sweet fruit made this seem clearly new world, but a good touch of acidity gave this some Old World charm, even if it slightly threw off the balance. Ok overall. Drink up.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
Tasted double blind. Clearly very ripe, but showing both New and Old World characteristics, nicely in harmony. Very ripe fruit, very well structured. Dense, meaty and powerful through long finish. Good now, 91 points, but clearly upside from here, 92+ points.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru
Tasted double blind. Black and red cherry with background spice. Good weight, very good length. Very charming and approachable now, but didn't come across as classically Vosne to me, nor did it quite show Grand Cru density. Needs time?
Almost double blind in Cali Cab flight. Easily the class of the flight. Black fruit throughout, great nose, dense palate with good_ balance. Long almost elegant finish. Best to enjoy young.
Almost double blind in Cali Cab flight. Ripe and rich black fruit, just barely able to retain balance. Slightly flabby. No upside to cellar, just risk.

Tasted double blind. (Don't know provenance.) Terribly disappointing, very advanced for this producer at this age. Too ripe, too fat, too tired.
