11/15 disgorgement. Apple, pear, mandarin and slatey spice. Understated palate, with some fresh fruit and nice medium bodied power. Good length and balance.
Peach, earth, musky florals, lemon and chalk. Good power and punch on the palate, plenty of flavour depth. Really nicely balanced power and length. Drinking really well now.
Ginger, orange, sea spray, lime and pepper. Caramel tinged palate, really lovely depth and the acidity plays off nicely against the sweeter aged character. Well integrated and lovely drinking, this is right at its aged peak.
Jumps out of the glass, lime and florals, slate and lemon - very pretty nose. Palate feels quite approachable early with good fruit richness and acid that sits in behind. Not one for the long term but will be good over the next few years.
Lime, pear, orange, graphite and spice - lots going on. Rich and textured with excellent purity. Really composed fruit, this is long, with the richness being held in check but great acidity. Drink over the next 10 years.
Herb, lemon, orange peel and pineapple - a good mix of ripe and less ripe flavours. Really good interest on the palate, there is focus and plenty of textural elements, while still feeling bright and fresh. More time left to give based on this bottle.
France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Montlouis-sur-Loire
Violets, musk, cherry, apple and a little slate. Some phenolics help offset the sweet flavour nicely, medium depth with good balance and some interest to it. Flows well and drinks nicely already. Will drink my other bottle in 3-4 years.
Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Adelaide Plains
Disgorged July 2017. Cherry, licorice, pepper, redcurrant, cola and Christmas cake. Sweet elements on the palate, the spritz helps clean it up nicely. Packs a lot of complexity into its young frame. With 5 years bottle age it should be showing really nicely.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Not especially expressive on the nose, some cocoa and stalks. Gets a bit better with air, showing a bit more depth on the mid bodied palate. Hints at sweetness but this is wrapped up very tightly. Not sure where it is going.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Oak driven with blackcurrant, violets, smoke, pencil shavings and cedar. Really tight on the palate, showing oak but not that much fruit right now. Tuck this one away for another 13 years.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
Blind. Iron, earth and toasty oak. Really clumsy on the palate, like an overworked village wine without the fruit quality to stand up to it. Really awkward wine. Surprising when revealed, but not nearly good enough for its level.
Blind. Licorice, mint, pepper, beetroot and juniper. The palate is heading towards being resolved, it has quite nice restraint and flow. Drink now and over the next few years.
Graphite, slate, meaty, briar and light coffee notes. The fruit is falling back in intensity but there is still some good tannin structure in place. No fireworks here, just a really nice solid Cabernet that is drinking well.
Tomato, graphite, roses, spice, blackcurrant and plums. Rich and bold fruit on the palate, but finds balance in its structure. Really good interest and potential to improve.
Spice, violets, licorice, black cherry - lots of lift and pure fruit. Sweet but lovely fruit and density, with layers of flavour. Really well put together wine, seamless. Open and expressive now, but lots and lots of room to get better.
Spearmint, menthol, blackcurrant and redcurrant. Nicely balanced on the palate, the fruit is rich but there is really good structure and even a slight savoury smoky note coming through. Really good fruit power without sacrificing all the detail. A lot to like here.
Violets, cherry/kirsch, musk, plums, raspberry and blackcurrant on the nose. The palate is full of power but there is a slippery elegance about it, even with how ripe and full it is, it feels classy and stylish. Excellent length. Young but plenty of time to go.
Orange, mandarin, pineapple, apple and creme caramel. Outright delicious on the palate, amped up both with the sweetness and acidity, tangy through the mid-palate and excellent length and intensity. Drinking right at its peak and will hold on for a very long time forward.
