  • 2013 Anaba Viognier Landa Vineyard 87 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Valley

This is a Chardonnay lover's Viognier. Light golden color, this smells of honey, nuts, cinnamon, bruised yellow apples and pears, a slight floral note. Plump, ripe and chewy on the palate but some fun and fresh acidity keeps it lively enough. Bruised apple and apricot jam mix with notes of clove, toasted nuts, cinnamon and some floral perfume. This tastes like heavily oaked Chardonnay, but it's good quality fruit. Tasted blind, I would've guessed Chardonnay for sure. Fermented in 35% new French oak.

  • 2015 Mirassou Vineyards Moscato 78 Points

    USA, California

Pale yellow color with a slight spritz. Smells of floral perfume, sugar cane, canned peaches and guava nectar. Sweet and plump on the palate with medium-low acidity. Yellow flowers, sugar cane and circus peanuts on top of guava and canned peaches. Fun stuff if you're looking for tropical sweetness. About 7% alcohol and 7% residual sugar.

  • 2013 Gainey Sauvignon Blanc 88 Points

USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Ynez Valley

Dark straw color. Pretty and floral on the nose with lots of grapefruit, orange and lime fruit, topped with crushed shells and honeysuckle. Crisp and clean on the palate, tingly acidity but some moderately creamy body. Oranges, limes, kumquat and grapefruit flavors abound, and I get bright, salty, chalky mineral tones. Nuances of honeysuckle and white tea. Insane value for $15.

  • 2015 Yao Family Wines Sauvignon Blanc Napa Crest 87 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Very pale straw color. Smells of grapefruit, lime, nectarine, topped with some basil and jalapeno. Full-bodied but stays bright and crisp, quite balanced with a rich mouthfeel and freshness. Flavors of lemon/lime, grapefruit and nectarine blend with basil, lemon grass, floral perfume and some chalk. Very vibrant, pleasant, with quite a lot going on here. Includes 8% Semillon, this is Yao Ming’s wine and it’s pretty darn good.

  • 2015 Liberated Wine Sauvignon Blanc 86 Points

    USA, California, Sonoma County

Light gold color. Aromas of key lime, white peaches and pineapple, along with a honeycomb and cut grass mix. Medium-full-bodied, this wine shows a waxy, creamy texture but refreshing acidity. I like the combination of pineapple and white peaches along with limes and kiwis – a nice mix of tartness and tropical elements. I get honeyed tea but a refreshing chalky aspect along with the cut grass and white pepper. Good stuff for the price.

  • 2015 Cliff Lede Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley 90 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Rich yellow color. Bright floral perfume on the nose with some dandelion and white pepper, but underlying honey, guava and melon fruit. Bold presence on the palate this is a creamy and velvety wine but it’s presented well with its moderate acidity. Yellow apple and plums mix with a dose of lime. Raw almond, white tea and honeycomb elements add complexity, but there’s a vibrant minerality present in this wine as well. Significant depth and impressive range of flavors, but it’s also so easy to sip and enjoy without contemplating them. Mostly Rutherford fruit, this wine was fermented in mostly old French oak, stainless steel and concrete eggs.
