For June, our DRC was a 1997 Richebourg. All other wines were (supposed to be) 1996 Red Burgundy; of course, we have a few ringers thrown in just for fun.
The DRC was poured at the beginning and enjoyed throughout the evening.
Funk, smoke, earth on the nose initially. Super smooth and elegant on the body, really nicely textured, some fruit and wood spice. Very fine tannins with a very long finish. The length is impressive. As it opened up, more earth and tea came out. The nose never really came around much, unfortunately.

Wines were tasted 2 at a time, blind, in the following order.
Tasted blind. Earth, barnyard, and some tobacco on the nose. Rich, luscious body still showing some red fruit. Lacking acidity, but still holding up well. Very soft and elegant body with a great mouthfeel.

Tasted blind. Funky, earthy notes dominate, supplemented by some spice box and chalk. Tart fruit is prominent on the body. Finished softly, with fine tannins and medium acidity. After some time in glass, the nose started to soften a bit, but overall it's still austere.

Tasted blind. Sweet fruit, some heat, mixed with wood spice and earth. A bit reductive. Rich, red cherry and strawberry flavors on the body. Fine but present tannins fade out softly on the long finish. Medium acidity, and nicely balanced. Most folks (myself included) pegged this for younger Burgundy. 91+

Tasted blind. Green, funky nose. Some red fruit that peaks mid-palate. Fine, prominent, and drying tannins on the finish.

Tasted blind. Soft nose, seems like it's holding back. Earthy, red fruit filled body. Medium weight. Finishes dry and a bit tart, with very fine tannins.

Tasted blind. Super ripe, big fragrant nose filled with red fruits. The purity on the body is incredible for such a rich and big wine. Cotton candy and red fruit dominate the medium weight body. The oak is nicely integrated, and it finishes with nice elegance. Group consensus seemed to be an expensive CA pinot; what a surprise when it was unveiled!

Tasted blind. Some folks thought there was some cork taint here, but it was hard to tell. Either way, it wasn't showing particularly well. What fruit was left faded very quickly. More of a lush body with fine tannins on the finish.

Tasted blind. Rich, red fruit and oak on the nose. Concentrated red cherries with intense purity and moderate complexity on the body. A touch of astringency on the finish, but overall quite nice.

Tasted blind. Lots of umami and savory characteristics. Soft, elegant body with super-fine tannins. A bit low in acid, but still holding together well.

Tasted blind. Really accessible, and nicely balanced. Definitely drinking quite well considering its age! Very ripe and full of fruit on the nose. Great purity, almost like red Jolly Rancher candy. Finishes with very fine tannins.

Tasted blind. Definitely some brett, barnyard, and menthol on the nose. Darker, more brooding body; even a bit austere. Some darker fruit lingers amongst tart acids and fine tannins. Probably the most 'serious' wine of the night.

Tasted blind. Reduced. A bit more fruit than the 1996 Lamarche, but still a darker, denser wine. Rich, round body and fine tannins with great balance. Well integrated.

Nothing like a good White Burgundy after a long flight of Red!
Tasted blind. Spicy, funky, stinky, smoky nose. Body is huge and rich, with lots of spice and dark fruits. I thought this had to be Syrah; shocked to find out it's a Merlot dominant blend! Drinking quite well. 91+

Tasted blind. Just the thing to end an evening of Red Burgundy. Floral, citrus, honey, and chalk on the nose. Rich, and pure, body with a nice balance of fruit and minerality. Persistent finish with fine tannins.

Chalky, citrus nose. Rich body, nice notes of citrus, orange peel, and flowers. Lengthy finish fades out slowly, with balanced acids.
