Some brooding, meaty spice that I expect in a PS, but not a lot. (2641 views) | | Tasted by Bob & Sue Atlanta on 6/1/2012 & rated 92 points: Big surprise. Drinking exceptionally well right now... (3960 views) | | Tasted by djlevin on 12/11/2011 & rated 91 points: Was afraid we had waited too long to pop this one. Brought to a dinner with our neighbors. No notes. At first, was very closed. Shy nose and very little fruit, but after an hour, this wine opened-up and was drinking beautifully. This wine really came together in the bottle. Black cherry with some cinnamon and vanilla spice. Tannins and acidity nicely integrated. Very smooth mouth-feel that was a bit watery. Maybe a shade past its prime, but still very good! (3783 views) | | Tasted by ecwingen on 10/5/2011 & rated 81 points: We let this sit too long. It's lost the fruit and vibrancy, and is left with a sort of jammy sweetness. Only bare remnants remain of the wonderful tobacco, soil, and green herb flavors I love in cab franc, though I suspect this was always a bit over oaked and over extracted, given what flavors dominate now. (4114 views) | | Tasted by rmcnees on 1/28/2011 & rated 88 points: Dark color, medium-full bodied, spicy dark berry, anise, and leather with a hint of cedar on a long silky tannin finish. (2910 views) | | Tasted by Dasher on 11/29/2010 & rated 86 points: This bottle was on the decline. Should have drank it on 2008 (2480 views) | | Tasted by Wino from Michigan on 9/8/2008 & rated 90 points: Needs time to open but once it did it was a nice Cab Franc. Strong tannins / very robust wine with flavors of vanilla and cassis. (2131 views) | | Tasted by jmull on 8/25/2008 & rated 92 points: Popped and poured. Much darker appearance than Cab Franc typically offers, but the herbal and tobacco elements on the nose are varietally appropriate. Those accent a beautiful dark fruit profile. Really nice balance of flavors. This is unusually smooth and seamless for a 100% cf. Really silky, with none of the angularity I often get from these. Finishes with excellent (30 second) length and a real sense of structure. I suspect this will age well for quite a bit longer. 92+. (1814 views) | | Tasted by fishkabob on 12/9/2007 & rated 92 points: Oaky and still very tannic. Improved over a couple of hours. (2735 views) | | Tasted by Grape_ape on 5/18/2007 & rated 92 points: Popped and poured at Anthony David's, a BYOB in Hoboken, NJ. Color, difficult to tell in low-lit quarters, but appeared to be dark ruby with a lighter rim, clear with no sediment. Upon opening,a bit of nail polish remover on the nose, with red berries, and a hints of green peppercorns. On the palate, black cherry, leather and cedar, with a medium to long finish with dusty tannins and nice acidity. Still ripe and full, but with enough balance to be very food friendly.
The wine opened nicely over the course of dinner, and the palate gained complexity adding subtle notes of green pepper, maybe a bit of jalapeno, and a hint of mint, turning to tobacco / cigar box on the finish. Really very solid effort. Paired well with pan seared veal tenderloin with truffle demi glace, mashed potatoes and broccoli rabe. Very nice, sorry it was my only bottle. While this was drinking great, it still had a few years ahead of it. (2044 views) | | Tasted by davidandrose on 5/5/2006 & rated 90 points: Decanted and consumed. Tasted EXTREMELY tannic and oaky immediately after opening. Some green pepper as well. After an hour this became better integrated, though still a bit overoaked. Vanilla and oak on the nose, nice red berry flavors with florals. Light on the palate, this was a refreshing wine to accompany chicken once it opened up. Continued to improve during the 3 hour drinking period; this enjoyable wine still has several years ahead of it. (2330 views) | | Tasted by LynneChef on 8/21/2004: Enjoyed this wine at the end of our wine tasting group’s “wines from France” evening. This was the favorite!! (even though not from France!). Very, very smooth; strong blackberry and black cherry flavors; tannins are just right. Mike (& Lori) Gordon th (1076 views) | | Tasted by billingscpa on 5/14/2004 & rated 87 points: WSJ - Rich and deep. So much weight it seems almost chewy, with some interesting herbalness and very good fruit. (2547 views) |
| Peju Province Winery Producer Website The love of farming and a passion for wine brought Tony Peju to the Napa Valley. A series of ideas - starting in his birthplace on the Caspian Sea, then France, England and eventually, Los Angeles -- created the Peju's Napa Valley winery. In 1982, Tony and his wife Herta purchased 30 acres of land in the Napa Valley with the magic ingredient - location. Neighboring vineyards in Rutherford included Robert Mondavi, Inglenook and Beaulieu. Situated between Highway 29 and the Napa River, the acreage included a 1900-era house and rambling vineyards, some 60 or more years old. Looking to the future, Tony and Herta have introduced their two daughters, Lisa and Ariana, to the workings of the wine business. Both of the young women are immersing themselves in all aspects of Peju Winery.Cabernet Franc Varietal character (Appellation America) | Wines & Vines articleUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners)Napa ValleySt. Helena |
