Sehr hochwertig. Jetzt bis 2038 (547 views)
 Tasted by Shay.Aldriedge on 3/30/2024 & rated 92 points: 92-93 for me.

Consumed half bottle at pop, then corked for another 4hrs before consuming the rest. No change.

What a beautifully elegant and refined ‘09. The highest compliment I can give this is that it was a simplistic joy. Some wines make it easy to get nerdy and command your attention…some wines are underwhelming and not worth your time. This was squarely in the middle. It was a joy to not feel the need to overthink…it’s exactly what it should be. No bricking at almost 15yrs. Decidedly black fruit heavy (black currant, cassis, underripe blackberries) with a sprinkling of raspberries and black cherries. Aromas of sweet pipe tobacco, dark florals. Integrated on the palate with good structure and acidity…not a massive wine, but it put on a bit of weight/length the longer it was open. Still sporting a fair bit of tannin at the finish, but it’s balanced. Drink or hold. (1566 views)
Tasted by NostraBacchus on 3/16/2024 & rated 93 points: This is in a really great place at age 15 but will have many good years ahead.
Pretty notes of black currant/cassis, black cherries, graphite/lead pencil, flowers and some sweet spices. There are also some notes of tobacco leaf and earth. It's medium-bodied with medium tannin that has melted away quite substantially an is very silky and a medium+ acidity providing good freshness. Very long finish.
A very elegant classic left bank Bordeaux that is more elegant than some of the bigger wines of the vintage. (2102 views)
 Tasted by olaf.foertsch@gmx.de on 3/16/2024 & rated 97 points: 0,75 l bottle opened for 5 h, not decanted:

Wow!!! Rich nose, perfect tanins, on the palate: red and black wild berries, pleasant acidity, dark chocolate and tobacco on the long finisandh (1856 views)
Tasted by karanan on 3/11/2024 & rated 92 points: Decanted for 2 hours - initially started off tight, but softened nicely over the course of 4 hours. Some fruit left, I think it might have another 2-3 years left. (2111 views)
Tasted by olaf.foertsch@gmx.de on 3/10/2024 & rated 96 points: Opened 1h before: 5th Grand Cru Haut Medoc, rich nose, perfect tannins, long finish... (1948 views)
Tasted by AMC Eagle on 3/8/2024 & rated 92 points: Decanted for over an hour to let the sediment settle. Dark plum-garnet in colour. Nose of cassis, blackberries, graphite, and a touch of blueberries and wet tobacco. On the palate, there are black currants, earthy blackberries, dark tobacco and some espresso; some tannins are noticed. Medium bodied with a medium finish. Last tasted, 10 years ago to this day.  Tasted by MarkusBig on 2/15/2024 & rated 92 points: This wine is drinking great right now. (2520 views)
Tasted by Piffpaff on 1/4/2024 & rated 95 points: The wine is in perfect balance and ready to drink, what are you waiting for? No need to spend hundreds of dollars to find something. 95 points. (3329 views)
Tasted by chefdilletante on 12/8/2023: Last tried this in 2021. Decanted for 90
Minutes. Oak is still a tad obtrusive. Tannins not fully subsumed but are tame. Classic Cabernet profile, with lots of blackcurrant. It’s drinking well. If you want more tertiary notes, wait longer. (3065 views)
Tasted by Reinoudoor on 12/2/2023 & rated 94 points: This is just so good. Agree with note below that it has a few years left to its peak, but some hours to a day after opening this is just delicious. Especially given the price. Will save last two bottles for 2024 and 2025. (3222 views)
Tasted by natap on 11/3/2023 & rated 88 points: Auge: Klares, tiefes rubinrot

Nase: Sauber. Mittlere Aromen von Brombeer, Schokolade, Cassis, Zedernholz. Erste Reifenoten.

(3628 views)
Tasted by paddy@gclb on 10/31/2023 & rated 93 points: Almost at its peak now. Came out of the bottle a bit restrained, but developed nicely after 1h in the Glas/Decanter. Still quite powerful - and would take at least 2 extra years in the bottle easily - with good structure and nicely integrated fruit (mostly cassis, typical fruit characteristic for the left bank).
A very nice drinking experience, considering the pricing, bit still a way to go to the big names. (3528 views)
Tasted by GulfIslandPond on 9/24/2023 & rated 88 points: Disappointing. Really fell flat. Fine at best but highly one dimensional and short. (3168 views)
Tasted by Jake Barnes on 9/8/2023 & rated 91 points: First of a trio purchased recently at retail and my fourth experience with this vintage of Cantemerle. PnP. No visual signs of aging. Nice nose of deep cassis with light elements of tertiary development that evolved and grew very quickly in the glass. Very concentrated but a touch flabby, lacking the kind of acidity needed to give the wealth of fruits here some real punch and presence. Also the tannins were very nice but lacked firmness and quantity. With more acidity and tannic structure, this bottle would easily have scored two points higher. My notes describe my earlier bottles, which were ex-chateau, as having “medium-plus” acidity and more tannic presence. Though not as good as earlier examples, this was still very nice. I’m a big fan of Cantemerle. 13% ABV (very good/***/16/91) (2086 views)
Tasted by Marshmarsh on 7/20/2023 & rated 91 points: Double decanted for two hours and took to The Richmond restaurant in SF. It was closed for awhile, imbalanced with sourness.

By 4-5 hrs, it was your classic left bank. Not much fruit. Fine tannin. Tertiary flavor with balance. Graphite, mineral, forest floor. Nice coating of the mouth.

Need a little more time or decant at least 4 hrs to enjoy (3980 views)
Tasted by pendlebg on 7/16/2023: excellent (3759 views)
Tasted by ___robin on 7/15/2023 & rated 91 points: Blackcurrant, graphite, blackcurrant leaf, felt quite young still (3370 views)
Tasted by Ianjaig on 7/8/2023 & rated 88 points: Didn’t grab me this. Perhaps it just didn’t open up despite a decant. Seemed a bit one dimensional. (3683 views)
Tasted by VinhoVerde on 7/1/2023 & rated 90 points: Deep purple color. Cassis, smoke, and mineral bouquet. On the palate one gets a ripe supple fruit entry and mid-palate in a medium-bodied format. Soft and approachable now, it will plateau over the next 3+ years. Decanted for 1 hour. (3397 views)
Tasted by Khon Kaen on 6/28/2023 & rated 92 points: 7 years since the last bottle. Gorgeous wine with bright colour. Complex nose with leathery, earthy notes and a long and pleasant finish. Beautiful mouth-feel. (3011 views)
Tasted by egoya on 5/14/2023 & rated 91 points: Medium bodied, mature and rather elegant wine. IMO not much difference to the 2010 which I tasted the day before. (3423 views)
Tasted by larryw on 4/21/2023 & rated 90 points: Decanting improved this Cantemerle considerably. Clear dark cherry in color, tobacco and forest floor on the nose with balance and fairly long finish. Doesn't have the body or finish we value from some of our favorite Bordeaux wines, but still a great value all things considered. (3395 views)
Tasted by cweiss on 3/8/2023: With Barbara and rack of lamb. My first of these, and really very good. Everything a Bordeaux should be from a generous vintage. Drink or hold. (4037 views)
Tasted by BcDuncan on 3/5/2023 & rated 92 points: Classic mature Bordeaux- lovely (3813 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

Vins Bordeaux (Conseil Interprofessionnel du Vin de Bordeaux)

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman

Médoc

Vins du Médoc (Conseil des Vins du Médoc) - Read More about the Medoc

VdB

The eight precisely defined appellations of the whole of the Médoc (from Blanquefort Brook to the north of the Bordeaux built-up area, almost to the Pointe de Grave) may claim the Médoc appellation. But there is also a specific territory in the north of the peninsula which produces exclusively wines with this appellation. In the great majority, the Médocs come from the north of the peninsula. The great individuality of this region is that the number of vines has increased more recently here than elsewhere, apart from a few isolated spots where vines have grown for many years. Today, the size of the small estate has brought about the development of a powerful co-operative movement. Four co-operatives out of five belong to the group called Unimédoc which ensures aging, bottling and marketing a large proportion of their wines.

Haut-Médoc

Read more about Haut Medoc and its wines Long-standing fame The legally created division into Médoc and Haut-Médoc dates from 1935. But as long ago as 1815 a Chartrons broker, whose word carried weight, spoke of great red wines in the Haut-Médoc, so recognizing the high quality successfully achieved by this region's growers in the eighteenth century. The same Bordeaux broker revealed that the business world of the Chartrons and the great Bordeaux proprietors had established a sort of league-table of the parishes in which the vine-growing communes of today's Haut-Médoc appellation showed up well.

The Haut-Médoc appellation stretches over some thirty seven miles from north to south, from Saint-Seurin de Cadourne to Blanquefort. Within this area, certain zones produce wines exclusively with the Haut-Médoc appellation. It has terroirs of remarkable quality. And although we may note a certain predominance of layers of gravel (essentially Garonne gravel) from the Quaternary, all these sites are characterized by their wide diversity. Today in the southernmost communes of the appellation, the suburbs of Bordeaux, numerous vineyards which existed at the beginning of the twentieth century have disappeared, victims of urban expansion. But the vines live on... because man has retained his devotion to them.

The astonishing variety of different terroirs, the result of the very extent of the area, explains the diversity of Haut-Médoc wines, a fact which is rare within one and the same appellation.
But, over and above the differences, linked to this mosaic of climatic and geological influence, all these wines have the same family traits of character.
Alert and lively, full-bodied without being too powerful, and harmoniously balanced, they acquire a rare bouquet over the years.

In order to have the right to the Haut-Médoc appellation of controlled origin, red wines must:
- come from the communes of Blanquefort, Le Taillan, Parempuyre, Le Pian, Ludon, Macau, Arsac, Labarde, Cantenac, Margaux, Avensan, Castelnau, Soussans, Arcins, Moulis, Listrac, Lamarque, Cussac, Saint-Laurent de Médoc, Saint-Julien, Pauillac, Saint-Sauveur, Cissac, Saint-Estèphe, Vertheuil, Saint-Seurin de Cadourne "excluding all the parcels situated on recent alluvium and sand on impermeable subsoils",
- satisfy precise production conditions : grape-varieties (Cabernet-Sauvignon, Cabernet-Franc, Carmenère, Merlot Noir, Petit Verdot, Cot or Malbec), minimum of sugar (178 grammes - 6.27 oz. - per litre of must) degree (an acquired 10°5) base yield (48 hectolitres per hectare).
