Tasted by mjohnsto on 4/22/2012 & rated 91 points: Just consumed my 32nd bottle and it was the best by far. Only 4 left. The listed consume date of 2011 was way off target and I am going to try and buy more of this excellent meritage (5846 views)
Tasted by bobpsi on 11/10/2011 & rated 87 points: P&P. Moderate black and red fruit nose with oak. Medium bidied with plums, cherry, oak and bit of pepper. Slightly hollow mid palate and medium finish. (6654 views)
Tasted by ey1294 on 10/2/2011 & rated 85 points: - Crimsom color with fast forming legs and aromas of oak, raspberry and dusty. It's lacking fruit and has flavours of black pepper, blackberry and cherry with a medium body. Flabby texture with a medium finish - Bordeaux varietal blend. (6779 views)
Tasted by hende14 on 9/30/2011 & rated 89 points: A lot better than a year ago. Good balance as the tannins have calmed down. Rich red fruit, vanilla, leather and licorice. Medium bodied, with some finish. One more bottle, one more year. (6797 views)
Tasted by chanote44 on 7/22/2011 & rated 90 points: Served this before the main dinner with friends. Everyone loved it. It has tons of fresh fruit on the pallet and a silky finish. (7078 views)
Tasted by vinomex on 6/10/2011 & rated 87 points: uneventful but drinkable. (3623 views)
Tasted by Filmshootr on 5/1/2011 & rated 90 points: Very Nice! (3662 views)
Tasted by ORWWValley on 4/20/2011 & rated 88 points: Excellent table wine. Nose of dark berries, vanilla, bark and leather. Heavy tannins should settle down over a few years. Not a very complex flavor profile. (3745 views)
Tasted by smp24 on 3/26/2011 & rated 89 points: Enjoyed a bottle with dinner at Flemings. After breathing a little, second glass was better than first. (3841 views)
Tasted by jackal4eva on 3/18/2011 & rated 88 points: $ for taste a great value. Nice blend and still has the complexity and quality you would expect from a Trefethen product. (3575 views)
Tasted by MRamirez on 2/27/2011 & rated 88 points: Really enjoyed this wine! (3981 views)

Tasted by eaknight1906 on 2/23/2011 & rated 84 points: I think this will be much better in a year. (3992 views)
Tasted by rmcnees on 2/16/2011 & rated 87 points: Medium bodied - cherry and berry fruit flavors, hint of spice - a bit austere/lean on the structure- tasted, available by the glass at Fleming's Steak House. (3998 views)
Tasted by CultCabKing on 12/14/2010 & rated 76 points: hot and thin - little fruit - sour finish. I think the grapes might be OK but the blend is not great (1489 views)
Tasted by smahk on 12/12/2010 & rated 90 points: O's Food and Wine Bar, St. James
Color: Depp Red
Nose: Plum, Black currant with smokey tobacco
Taste: Plum, tobacco, vanilla with a dash of pepper

Another surprise - nice bordeaux blend. Not a long lingering finish but hangs around long enough to know this is a bordeaux blend. Excellent QPR. (4868 views)
Tasted by oaklandwinelover on 11/13/2010 & rated 90 points: perfectly balanced, fruit forward, and smooth (5220 views)
Tasted by hende14 on 11/12/2010 & rated 87 points: Nice nose of plum and red fruit with a touch of nuttiness. The problem is that the nice aromas get shut off by the oak before they can translate to the palate. So missing the flavors in the mid palate. Some spice and juiciness on the finish. This wine promises so much and delivers so little. Maybe too young? Leave the last 2 bottles in the cellar for a while. (5167 views)
Tasted by ey1294 on 10/31/2010 & rated 90 points: What a great Bordeaux blend from California! (5285 views)
Tasted by SyrahQueen on 10/30/2010 & rated 92 points: Had this at Aureole in NYC last night. Had a big nose. Wonderful hints of fruit and spice. Lovely finish. Just the perfect balance of fruit, tannis, and acid. Really enjoyed and would highly recommend. Amazing price point for this type of wine, paid $60 at restaurant but just bought it for $20 at a local wine shop. The wine made our dinner all the more memorable.. Will be serving over Thanksgiving. (5573 views)
Tasted by Petercarr on 8/19/2010: Nice bistro type wine (5775 views)
Tasted by SGates on 8/12/2010 & rated 90 points: What is this? Distinctive Napa berry and clove flavors hidden in a $12 bottle in the mark-down basket at my local grocery store. Great find, but here is the problem. My wife likes anything expensive with chocolate on the finish and now expects me to be able to produce something like this on a weeknight! Damn you QFC mark down basket..... (5850 views)
Tasted by floydtp on 7/1/2010 & rated 89 points: Outstanding wine for the price. This was my first experience with Trefethen and will definitely be exploring more of their offerings. (6104 views)
Tasted by drdebs on 6/28/2010 & rated 90 points: Extremely pleased with this Bordeaux blend that includes all five Bordeaux varieties. Unusually complex for the price point, with cassis, plum, and tobacco leaf aromas. Layered cassis, graphite, and herbal flavors, with a juicy finish that is not terribly lengthy but does invite you back for another taste. Excellent with molasses/mustard marinated pork tenderloin. Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
