Tasted by Winokdub on 2/11/2021 & rated 94 points: Wow. Exceptional zin. Very expressive nose. Pours dark. Nice soft fruit. Could tell ot would have been too much in its youth but nice and silky now. High alcohol but you would not know. Super smooth. Great finish. Still years ahead. (481 views)
Tasted by austinbeeman- austinbeeman.com on 4/11/2016 & rated 91 points: Finest Provenance Possible - Tasted at Winery

Luscious with an apricot and jalapeño compote. Smooth red berry jelly with the least perceptive heat between 97, 02, 03 ,07, & 14.

Tasted by tcosgriff on 8/11/2015 & rated 90 points: Purple color with some brown at the edge. Bouquet and flavor that was part prune and part raisin, with a bit of brambles. Good balance despite its very high alcohol. Not likely to get better. (1966 views)
Tasted by peterk on 7/12/2015 & rated 92 points: I have difficulty rating this, as it's not my preferred style of wine. It gushes with ripe, ripe, sweet fruit - more than a bit over the top. But when one considers the labor of love that goes into this wine whose vines grow on a 60% slope, still ploughed by Lee Martinelli himself, one has to pause and taste again. I drank a half bottle solo with a rack of slow-smoked BBQ ribs. What a match! I've been buying my allocation iof this wine for 21 years, and I'll continue to never leave a bottle unbought.  Tasted by Fishboy on 8/10/2013 & rated 92 points: Great zin. Drinking well right now. (2770 views)
Tasted by Deb293 on 12/4/2012 & rated 89 points: Nice wine with lots of fruit...perhaps a little thin/astringent and not as rounded as one would hope. Certainly not terrible, but QPR? Fuggedaboutit. But what Zin is really worth this $$? (2694 views)
Tasted by Scharin on 11/23/2012 & rated 84 points: Nose of blueberry, straw, and licorice. Similar notes on the palate, with quite a bit of alcohol heat which detracted from the overall package. (1557 views)
Tasted by stocksandbondage on 8/24/2010 & rated 91 points: Wait on this one if you own it. While it seems to have everything that it should, I was vaguely dissapointed by the overall package. Very sweet, almost raiseny notes need time to calm down. (2133 views)
Tasted by twoamps on 2/15/2010 & rated 90 points: not the expected complex fruit bomb, but not bad. $120? I dont’ think so... (966 views)

Martinelli

Producer website

All of the Martinelli Estate vineyards are farmed by Lee Martinelli, Sr., and sons Lee, Jr., and George Martinelli. The wines are made by our winemaker, Helen Turley, and assistant winemaker, Bryan Kvamme. These handcrafted wines are un-fined, un-filtered, neither cold nor heat stabilized and may contain naturally occurring sediment.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
