Tasted by Harddriv on 12/5/2010 & rated 89 points: Nice, balanced, good food wine. Not amazing - but pleasant to drink. (3428 views)
Tasted by grapist on 7/18/2009: If you've got it, drink up. This is past its peak (3870 views)
Tasted by Eck on 6/6/2009 & rated 89 points: Still drinking very nicely (3948 views)
Tasted by jaynew on 4/20/2009 & rated 89 points: Nice sipping wine. Not too Jammy but not very refined. Good with spicy food, no tannins. Just a nice wine. Paid 27 for it originally. (3940 views)
Tasted by Eck on 2/28/2009 & rated 90 points: Solid bottle of wine, drinking perfectly right now, lots of merlot taste in this blend but that is what Duckhorn does best. Very smooth Bordeaux style wine from Napa. (2062 views)
Tasted by tdcd@comcast.net on 12/7/2008 & rated 89 points: Nice table wine. For a "value" wine, it's a winner. Complex in nature. Taste was interesting, a tad bitter. Could use some oxygen. (1929 views)
Tasted by Eck on 11/28/2008 & rated 90 points: very nice, smooth, lots of merlot. (2055 views)
Tasted by grapist on 4/12/2008 & rated 90 points: Keep that drinking window open. This is drinking perfectly now and shows no signs of tipping over. Elegant nose, rich, full flavors and medium long finish. (2077 views)
Tasted by SoCal on 12/29/2007 & rated 79 points: I am not sure if I'd was a bad bottle but it had a very distict burnt rubber like quality. I can understand the Bordeaux analogy but I still did not appreicate this effort. (2247 views)
Tasted by grapist on 12/28/2007 & rated 90 points: Way better than the last one we opened. Great fruit, highly aromatic. Well balanced. Not great, but really good with gourmet pizza (2275 views)
Tasted by SoCal on 6/17/2007 & rated 85 points: Just ok...off ballance...not a fan. Better to drink late night after you cant taste the flaws. (2530 views)
Tasted by grapist on 5/27/2007 & rated 86 points: Dissapointed. Quite fruity but lacked complexity. Not worth the price, tho have liked this previously. (2535 views)
Tasted by grapist on 12/1/2006 & rated 87 points: Not nearly as impressed as with previous. Perhaps it's time to drink up? (2810 views)
Tasted by Rob MacKay on 10/24/2006 & rated 90 points: We were quite happy with this wine. Oddly enough, this California bordeaux style blend could easily be mistaken for an old world bordeaux. Doesn't quite have the nose yet but the flavors and texture are all in place. (2715 views)
Tasted by boldredmonster on 9/27/2006 & rated 89 points: Little noticeable fruit. Not very complex but enjoyable. Nothing wrong with this wine at all. A bit thin but the very dry, palate coating finish makes up for any other shortcomings. If I could find it, I would buy again it again. (2838 views)
Tasted by SeaBud on 9/23/2005: Not distinguished but well balanced. Prefer Honig in this price range. (2917 views)
Tasted by whiner on 5/21/2005 & rated 91 points: very nice wine, dark plum colour , full bodied. Smooth and sweet -choclately flavours not overly fruity, Tannic long finish. (3065 views)
Tasted by mdstenner on 4/16/2005 & rated 89 points: Very smooth, with cherry, plum and mulberry flavors. A lovely core of fruit bodes well for an outstanding wine in 2-3 years time. (2658 views)
Tasted by GlenD on 2/1/2005 & rated 92 points: Plush, lush and velvet. Very nice fruit concentration with an eye opening luxurious mouthfeel. I'll be looking for more. Cab 53%, Merlot 26%, Franc 21%. (2954 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
