Community Tasting Notes (average 88.9 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 32 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by louisl on 12/11/2014 & rated 87 points: Decent fruit on the nose, but it is unbalanced with the tannins on the palate and has too much green peppers to be pleasant. Unfortunately, I think this wine is past its prime and is not going to get any better... (3174 views)
Tasted by davesdream on 1/16/2012: Solid Napa cab. Dark rich full bodied, drinking well first and second nights. Second night in particular: no spice, not hot/no harsh tannins, nice Napa fruit. (4388 views)
Tasted by mike.marcellin on 10/3/2011 & rated 92 points: Good nose on open, good tannins, opened well in 45 mins. This wine was and continues to be a great value (4237 views)
Tasted by iamandyc on 1/8/2011 & rated 88 points: Oaky day one but got lusher and less oaky day two. Good structure and depth. (4832 views)
Tasted by clericjohnbrown on 6/27/2010 & rated 85 points: Oaky oaked oak. Had been open for nearly 72 hours and was still drinking decently. Lost most of its fruit but still had nice structure and some depth, but obviously plenty of new american oak. Will drink well for several more years. (5131 views)
Tasted by winosis3 on 2/28/2010 & rated 90 points: Bit oaky and young, should probably have decanted but was impatient. Has substance 4 on the YUM (3255 views)
Tasted by austinwino on 1/8/2010 & rated 89 points: decanted for about an hour. The nose had some cherry and licorice and a little leather. Very firm tannins and dry finish. pretty big mouthfeel and a decent finish. Seems that it can/should set in the cellar for a while. The score is current and a little based upon the potential. (2634 views)
Tasted by nate's cellar on 12/27/2009 & rated 89 points: very nice (2673 views)
Tasted by CultCabKing on 12/20/2009 & rated 82 points: open in 2011-2013, 57% cab, 36% merlot, 7% cab franc (1015 views)
Tasted by winopops3 on 12/18/2009 & rated 88 points: Too much oak for me. Some fruit, but relatively short finish and tannins have not softened. Will revisit in a year or two. (2822 views)
Tasted by elamasters on 9/15/2009 & rated 89 points: Needs about an hour of air to dissipate the heat that pops out at first, then blossoms into a beautiful wine with great deep dark fruit nuances and toasty baking spice notes. (2975 views)
Tasted by terroir on 8/29/2009 & rated 90 points: Always very good (3147 views)
Tasted by Yamadori on 8/23/2009 & rated 89 points: Decanted for 1 hour and it was tight as nails. Some dark fruit on the nose but with leather and mineral elements. Medium bodied with some fruit showing but masked by strong tannins. Dry and tannic on the finish. Decanted for another 24 hours and the wine opened up considerably. Still the same profile but much more approachable and gave a hint of what this wine will be in a few years time. This wine really isn't ready for drinking right now. I have a couple more bottles which i won't be touching for at least 5 years. (89+ pts)

Update: Saved one glass for another 24 hours (48 hour total decant) and this was the best glass. More fruit showing, tannins had subsided and the finish was longer although still a little dry. This confirms my opinion that this wine will be really good in about 5 years time. (2986 views)
Tasted by J-Sho on 7/18/2009 & rated 91 points: There is a reason I always love this wine. Big nose of dark fruit, cassis and some brown sugar to go along with a medium bodied, well structured palate that is nicely balanced. Dependable, pleasing, and relatively inexpensive per Napa standards. (3021 views)
Tasted by ejca on 5/23/2009: excellent, I am going to buy more. (3063 views)
Tasted by terroir on 1/1/2009 & rated 90 points: Much better than 6 months ago, and she will develope with another 6 to 9 months. While less fruit than 05 Claret she now shows finesse and good structure,
with red currant, black cherry, and a pinch of cranberry..Nice finish with good amount of currant. Glad I have 6 more bottles to age. (3252 views)
Tasted by Blue Shorts on 12/26/2008 & rated 91 points: A nice claret. Big nose of balckberries, flowers and dark fruit. The taste is a bit hot and could cue more time, but it's a typical Lede.... just wonderful. (3290 views)
Tasted by elamasters on 12/20/2008 & rated 88 points: Great for everyday drinking. Not really deep or complex, but quite pleasant. (3285 views)
Tasted by whits on 11/20/2008 & rated 91 points: as of now needs to be decanted for at least half-an-hour, great aroma of oak and dark fruit with some green pepper, big flavors of dark cherries, tobacco, and sweet blackberry, long, dry finish, shows some real potential, seems more focused compared to the past two vintages, still tannic, young, a good value in the next years to come (3346 views)

Beautifully balanced bouqet of white pepper, wild berries, and red clay, later exposing hints of old Bordeaux such as dusty parchment, leather and spice box. Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
