Dry, medium acid, medium alcohol, medium body, pronounced intensity, medium finsh (29 views)
Tasted by fc1910 on 4/23/2022 & rated 91 points: 1982 (A vintage dream); 4/21/2022-4/23/2022 (Hotel Jean Jacques Rousseau, La Neuveville, lake Biel, Restaurant des Bains, Avenches, Switzerland): This bottle got a fine, juicy cassis fruit still,
ripe, maybe a hint of opulent appearance, long finish (2073 views)
Tasted by exclusive vintage wines on 3/7/2021 & rated 94 points: korken liess sich gut ziehen.
Duft von Cassies , Brombeeren , im Gaumen sehr bekömmlich , ein Hauch von Zwetschgen , keine Säure, ready to drink, wahnsinns Qualität. ein Kauf lohnt sich !!! (2245 views)
Tasted by magnusguy on 12/10/2017 & rated 87 points: Served with veal tenderloin at Les Amis de la table holiday dinner. As perfect as it could be at this point. Very suave, refined and a gorgeous example. Fully mature, drink now. Quite a surprise. (4062 views)
(6796 views)
Tasted by Tavastgatan on 10/31/2015 & rated 91 points: Lovely mature Pessac. Drinking very good at this stage. (6651 views)
Tasted by Patrik H on 10/30/2015 & rated 90 points: On the nose: Stable, sadle, cedar, lead, dust, licorice, very matured wine
On the palate: Black currant, leather, black lead, coffee
Medium + finish (5672 views)
Tasted by Ramberg on 10/29/2015 & rated 92 points: Wow!
Wonderful nose, typical mature Bordeaux, with pencil lead, licorice, some fine green herbs, tobacco leafs, stable and fine barnyard, with loads of fine and dusty gravel.
Excellent, immediately puts a big smile on my face.
Palate is really alive and well preserved for the age of a “lesser” wine as this one.
Keeps together really fine, and in a lovely drinking spot right now.
Fine and sweet fruit, silky and velvety, very fine balance between sweetness and fruitiness and acidity.
I was surprised when he bottle was revealed as I thought that this was a much higher classified wine, and from 1990.
Very nice, and in a sweet spot.
Solid stuff. (4542 views)
Tasted by FamilyLarsson on 10/29/2015 & rated 91 points: Fint mogen Bordeaux i mellanklassen som har allt de skall. (5061 views)
Tasted by DesertDrinker on 8/7/2015 & rated 90 points: WOTN for our wine paired dinner in Flagstaff. Bottles were pristene and wine was well above the shoulder. color was still deep purple with some browning at the edge. double decanted 3 hours before serving and decanted 90 minutes before service. nose was forest floor, wet leaves, damp leather. palate - remarkablly smooth and silky, tannins all, gone but still plenty of ripe fruit. classic leather, tobacco and wood box with ripe dark berries. Really nice wine. can cellar for longer. (1566 views)
Tasted by Vinoevelo on 5/17/2015: Old & tired. (1685 views)
Tasted by Vinoevelo on 12/27/2014 & rated 90 points: First bottle was DOA, second showed quite well. Very delicate and ethereal. Clean red fruits with notes of cedar and leather. Distinctive pessac minerality. Very good. (2026 views)
Tasted by pjaines on 1/2/2014: Lovely, soft and fully mature - impressive depth still there and the finish is excellent. (3383 views)
Tasted by lean88j on 7/30/2011 & rated 93 points: Very delicate and wine full of finesse. It was beautiful classic Bordeaux aroma, full of detail, but on the palate there was a short finish. Good choice to follow the Montrachet. I thought this would be a better wine than it otherwise was scored 77 RP. Performed surprisingly well only if on the attack. The most elegant and enjoyable Red for me. (5933 views)
Tasted by vindictive on 5/20/2011: Bottle and fill excellent, cork solid. Excellent bordeaux that will benefit from more time in the bottle. This chateau is very reliable for age-worthy wines. Not decanted (restaurant dinner) and still young (for my tastes). Nice earth, berry, tobacco etc.. that firmed up with air. Very good, but because of its youth, overshadowed by the older wines served alongside it. (5422 views)
Tasted by PJRONeill on 3/2/2011 & rated 90 points: The final bottle of a disappointing case, and wouldn't you know it? After a succession of mediocre (to put it mildly) bottles, with loads of band-aid and thin, strung out fruit, this last bottle is quite lovely. A hint of menthol with cedar, peat smoke and gracefully faded red fruit on the nose. On the palate some strawberries, vanilla, nicely balanced albeit without any huge complexity or fireworks on the finish. But a pleasant surprise. (5305 views)
Tasted by MHildbold on 3/29/2010 & rated 90 points: Color: Ruby center with amber rim. Nose: dried leaves, pencil shavings, dried strawberries and roses, a hint of smoke. Palate: core of dried red fruits, dried flowers, earthy, graphite. Incredibly smooth and silky. I don't know if people had bad bottles, but I thought this was excellent. Incredible silky mouthfeel, light, ethereal. Classic subtle Graves character. (5559 views)
Tasted by gsa on 3/21/2010 & rated 87 points: Fully mature drink now - will not improve and is in decline (4787 views)
Tasted by 60ouvrees on 3/13/2010: From a bottle in perfect condition. Never one of the great '82s, this has been in slow decline for years but still extremely enjoyable and a treat for lovers of lighter style, old fashioned claret. (3327 views)
Tasted by gsa on 3/5/2010 & rated 88 points: Fully mature - drink now even with well stored bottles (3670 views)
Tasted by Keith Levenberg on 11/24/2008 & rated 81 points: On the spectrum of lightness between "finessed and elegant" at one end and "insubstantial, unremarkable, and empty" at the other, this starts almost entirely on the latter end and slowly crawls into more interesting territory - but doesn't get very far. (4225 views)
Tasted by ABCD on 6/25/2007: Drank at a dinner w/ Fausts, etc. Drinking exceptionally well right now -- unlikely to get any better. Big, rustic, tobacco smoke dominant. (3856 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman
