Tasted by ziavino on 3/22/2024 & rated 90 points: Fruit forward, with notes of ripe blackberry and black raspberry leading the way. Hints of black licorice abound, with a faint tar note weaving in late. (382 views)
Tasted by davidspieker on 2/21/2024: Good value. Dark fruit flavors with some black pepper. Nice finish. (519 views)
Tasted by DSacks1991 on 2/14/2024 & rated 92 points: Bold yet smooth, black pepper and dark fruit with a strong finish. Tannins are present but not overpowering. Great value. Another year or two in the cellar wouldn’t hurt but not necessary either (509 views)
 Tasted by cstir on 11/13/2023 & rated 90 points: Firm tannins; good structure; modest dark red fruit;
nice finish. (1121 views)
Tasted by Dinamarca on 11/10/2023 & rated 91 points: Virkelig flot CdR! (1003 views)
Tasted by scorbett on 10/4/2023: This is generally a great value SKU.

Due to the vintage, it's simply too hot for me this iteration. It is what it is.

If you're hard up for cash and need a decent wine, it's still a solid play. But if you have the choice and the means, I'd skip the 2020. (1289 views)
Tasted by J'agnes on 8/14/2023 & rated 92 points: Darkest red/ purple with no visible clear rim. Nose of raw meat, blood and blackberry. Massive palate blackberry, black fruit, blood and Earth. Nice vegetal finish with soft tannins and a liquorice twist. Brilliant entry level from Chave. Tremendous value. (1313 views)
Tasted by neolaozi on 5/23/2023 & rated 83 points: 바틀 컨디션 차이인지
지난번보다 한참 못했다.
그래도 훌륭. (1573 views)
(1832 views)
Tasted by chifred on 3/5/2023 & rated 89 points: Very nice, great QPR, pleasant surprise, no formal notes. (1535 views)
Tasted by maxima on 2/28/2023 & rated 88 points: Bu en succ.
Moins bien que les 2015, 2017 et 2019 mais
tout de même bien. Sur les mures, les fleurs,
le lard et le poivre.
Belle allonge en finale avec une petite
chauffe.
Très bon. (2036 views)
Tasted by CellarmanC on 2/23/2023 & rated 92 points: Producer, producer, producer. Chave is Chave, plain and simple. Even his most humble CDR performs well above its level. Black and blue fruits, black pepper, brambly herbs, a hint of smoked meat, and a log and persistent finish. Just stupid good for $20! (1430 views)
Tasted by Sagan99 on 2/18/2023 & rated 88 points: Have had this several times recently and it's just a really honest house wine, for a really good price
If it wasn't for the fact that Guigal's CdR is $10 cheaper per bottle, I'd buy cases of this.
Anyway, it's really good for what it's supposed to be.
Buy more, pop the cork, and drink it everyday... It doesn't last long, whether because of it's quality, or the fact that it's not made for aging... Despite what experts say.

Tasted by beatles on 1/26/2023 & rated 90 points: Open and juicy with a certain firm peppery grip to it, that I like. Vertical wine, easy to drink, still, it lingers on. (1497 views)
Tasted by tward on 1/23/2023 & rated 88 points: Very Good+. What's not to like if you like solid "basic" CdR? Seems Syrah-driven - is there Mourvedre??? - darker, smooth, some loamy earth, some herb. Easy drinking and friendly with food. I only wish it was a bit more rustic rather than so smooth and fruit centered.

15% abv, no heat, completely contains by the enveloping fruit, just adding some pleasing warmth. (857 views)
Tasted by Burgnick on 1/12/2023 & rated 88 points: Good value. Ripe, dark and rich with good weight and power for its level. Prefer the slightly more expensive Jamet Cote du Rhone for its transparency and ethereality. (1316 views)
Tasted by S0N_0F_BACCHU5 on 1/9/2023 & rated 90 points: A little tight at 59f. Great color, dark and plummy. Cherry and dark fruit on the nose a little herbal too. Maybe a little VA but not flawed. Ripe style with dark Cherry fruit, nice mineral balanced with tannins. long finish. Definitely buy again. (800 views)
Tasted by Sagan99 on 1/3/2023 & rated 88 points: I'll not scribe notes on this as this is the 3rd bottle in past few months.

Consistently good wine -

Challenge is that, for the same base wine, Guigal makes a virtually identical liquid for $10 CAD /bottle less... Though I sense this Chave blend has more Syrah and less Grenache.
But who knows.

Anyway, for $27 CAD, this is really nice wine.
And, it's tough to find a wine at that price, of which I'd consider a cellar defender.

Either the Guigal Cote du Rhone, or this, are really nice for everyday drinking.

Tasted by mazik on 12/17/2022 & rated 91 points: Popped and poured at LaLou, a lovely young CdR. The grenache was leading the dance but the syrah is not far behind. Lots of fruit and a floral (violet) component, crunchy, a great food wine that will age, except that you won't be able to resist popping the corks. (783 views)
Tasted by HHMiller1 on 11/28/2022: Nose: dark plum, thyme, olive oil. Some blueberries on the palate. Black pepper. Could be more integrated but not bad for a $25 bottle. A little tight at opening, will decant.

Update: more violet came out with decanting, red cherry too. (866 views)
Tasted by Sagan99 on 11/19/2022 & rated 88 points: Had this wine in mid October.
This bottle was fabulous, and at $25ish, but more. It's a terrific cellar defender.
Moved to 88 from previously declared 86.
Finish was longer and bottle was better... Or, maybe I wasn't so focused on the comparison with Guigal's Cote de Rhone.

PS- Drink the Rainbow! (904 views)
Tasted by Beerzebub on 11/4/2022: P&p, drinking well right away, just a bit tight. Dark fruit with lovely floral, peppery and savory/bloody notes. Good amounts of both tannins and acidity. No noticeable alcohol for me, despite the 15% on the label. Comes across as somewhat young and raw (at least right after opening), but an enjoyable and characterful wine and good value, as always.

Day 2 (250ml refill bottle stored overnight in fridge and brought back to temp): Further improved, more cohesive, good stuff. (864 views)
Tasted by Jon Harrison on 10/28/2022 & rated 91 points: (Imported by Erin Cannon, NY). Jean-Louis Chave makes his exceptional CDR from grapes sourced at 4 different (excellent) sites. The blend is roughly 50% Grenache, 50% Syrah. But I've also heard it's 20% GR and 80% SY.
_______________

Color: Dark ruby. Impressive.

Nose: Deep, black/purple plum, blackberry, black olive, and violets. Lovely. Great purity.

Palate: Rich mouthful of black/purple fruit, black raspberry, and black olive Syrah. Full body (alcohol at 15%). Really excellent concentration (extract) for CDR. Lush, full, mid-palate. Firm but very ripe tannins. This was even better on the second night.

This has amazing concentration at the price point. $22 usd.

Now: 90-91 solid.
Potential: 92.
Peak drinking window: 2024-2028.

This excellent Chave CDR drinks fine now, but it's concentrated and undeveloped. it will be much better after 2024. If you can buy 6 bottles, drink one or two now, and lay the others down for a few years (if you have good storage), you will be rewarded.

Tasted by Sagan99 on 10/17/2022 & rated 86 points: I bought this most basic of Chave wines, having had his fabulous Saint Joseph Offerus a couple of months back.
This isn't St Joe's, not even close. And, it's really really young. But, for $27, it's everything grenache and syrah do together in the Rhone.
Purple, medium intensity with the nose dark fruits- plums, blackberries, with an earthiness. Red cherries added on the palate.
It's dry, has a lengthy 60s finish, and has an amazing tannic structure which will likely enable a bunch of years before this needs to be swallowed!

60% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre/Cinsault
15% abv

Buy more. A really inexpensive cellar defender.

Addendum - November 19
Had this again and I'm going to raise the 86 to 88. This bottle was fabulous!! It goes with any food I've would have with a red wine. And it's finish was lengthy on this occasion.

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.
