Tasted by Jag76 on 12/31/2023: cork deteriorated - undrinkable (411 views)
Tasted by rhyman on 12/16/2023 & rated 90 points: Fully mature. Starting to thin out but holds some nice fruit like cherries and lite plums. Has a slight orange color tinge on the outside rim. Drink now.
Decanted a couple hours!! (421 views)
Tasted by jrmorrison on 9/10/2023 & rated 91 points: Still holding up great! Cherry fruit, smooth on finish and wonderful bouquet. (589 views)
Tasted by pford on 1/8/2022 & rated 90 points: Worth the wait. (2407 views)
Tasted by ifishtoo on 5/28/2020 & rated 94 points: Held up well. Fully mature with great bouquet with excellent fruit still. A lovely experience with an older well made wine. (3789 views)
Tasted by norsktorsk on 6/19/2019 & rated 90 points: still holding well. (3678 views)
Tasted by tinycellar on 5/5/2018 & rated 92 points: From my cellar and had this wine since 1996. Waited one hour after open. Didn't decant because concerned old CA wines can sometimes degrade too quickly. Beautiful fruit: cherry, plums mostly. Lovely nose as one would expect from a fine CA old cab. Tannin was little and nearly noticeable. Nice silky finish. Was just slightly more open three hours later. (4426 views)
Tasted by katofox on 3/9/2018 & rated 95 points: Excellent bottle! Black cherry, chocolate, plum. Smooth and very balanced. Best Latour I've opened. (4408 views)
Tasted by 5Ks on 12/1/2017 flawed bottle: Well over its prime. (3569 views)
Tasted by pford on 9/19/2017 & rated 92 points: Cork come out in pieces, the bottom 1/2 was weakened, but the top was still sound. Wine was fantastic. Perhaps even a little more vibrant than I was expecting. Celebrated 25th wedding anniversary with this 24 year old wine. (3011 views)
Tasted by Colorado Native 3G on 4/14/2016 & rated 92 points: This was the surprise of the evening. The wine was garnet in color with brown tinge at the rim, a lovely soft fruit bouquet, plush and soft delicate wine with resolved tannins on palate that was very enjoyable and intriguing. The cork did break at the bottom upon removal.
This wine was tasted with a total of six people with a 1997 & 2001 vintages of the the BV CS Geroges de Latour. All 6 people rated the 1993 2nd behind the 1997. The wine was decanted for 3 1/2 hours before tasting. Tasted over the next hour from that point. (4917 views)
Tasted by winelesbos on 3/13/2016 & rated 87 points: Decanted 5 hours. Very smooth, pork and salt on the nose. Palate: first hit with pork chop, then currant, oak and baked apple. Medium finish, good tannin, medium acid. Left one glass decanting overnight and got a little more berry on the palate the next morning. I would drink now. (4344 views)
Tasted by Javachip on 12/26/2015 & rated 90 points: Decanted for one hour. Clear dark garnet color. Classic Napa cabernet with bouquet of currant liqueur, boysenberries, figs, aromatic wood, mocha, anise, eucalyptus, vanilla, cloves, nutmeg. Similar on the palate, full body with velvety mouth-coating tannins, balanced acidity, medium finish. Showed best with 8 hours of air. (4310 views)
Tasted by Quiet Lion on 12/9/2015 & rated 92 points: Last of three bottles bought recently. Cork disintegrated as always, decanted through strainer and poured right away. Promising berry nose on opening but tight and metallic for the first 15 minutes. After that, very faded with hint of leather, a bit sour, raisin. Sipped slowly and after two hours peaked with modest chocolate, increased raisin, and less sourness. Not to everyone's taste but I really enjoy these aged old-world-style Cabernets and this satisfied. After having had many bottles of 1993 over the past 10 years, I think this vintage is now well past its window so drink up. (4124 views)
Tasted by Quiet Lion on 11/26/2015 & rated 94 points: Opened this for Thanksgiving dinner with a backup in case it was as bad as the last one. This one, with a Joel Aiken autograph on it, was perfect right out of the bottle so did not decant. Drank over two hours. Light and balanced with some memories of berry and lovely earthiness. This is why I drink the older BVGDLs. (3917 views)
Tasted by Quiet Lion on 11/23/2015 flawed bottle: Cork dry on top and disintegrated. Tight and sour out of the bottle. After 15 minutes overpowering Brett. Having experience with old BVGDL I waited. And waited. After 90 minutes it became drinkable and continued to improve over a six-hour span, never rising above the unbalanced menthol taste but still respectable. I've had much better bottles of the 93 so I'm going to call this one flawed even though we finished it. (1902 views)
Tasted by John Dunlap on 8/15/2015 & rated 89 points: Gift from a friend. Stored in good conditions. Good ullage. Cork was problematic, as it fell apart during removal. Decanted, with a fair amount of sediment. Served in a Burgundy bowl. A nice wine, with fine color and resolved tannins. Funny, but seemed more at peace on the second night, with smoother flavors of plum and some dark berries and cassis. Tannins were also rounder the second evening. Enjoyed by all including those who like restrained flavors. Drink up folks. (2304 views)
Tasted by Mark on 6/28/2015 & rated 90 points: This wine has aged relatively well. Very medicinal, notes of cough syrup, chocolate, cassis and dust. Good weight, and a medium finish. Classic aged BV style. (2919 views)
Tasted by partylikeakennedy on 10/4/2014 & rated 92 points: At first I was meh. Then I waited. And swirled. And the wine changed. And it was with the wait. Smooth tannins, lighter than you'd expect for a '93 Cab. (3536 views)
Tasted by sequoiagrove on 7/20/2014 & rated 95 points: Oh joy. Earth, cedar, broken down fruit, transcended into something better than juice. anis. Still no signs of browning, tannins are fully integrated though at this point, so it is about time to drink them.
But lacking multilayered experience that outstanding wines have. (3615 views)
Tasted by kirkbare on 5/13/2014: Enjoyed with our son on his 21st birthday. (4136 views)
Tasted by johnmathon on 3/16/2014: This wine seems gone unfortunately. Maybe if we had let it breathe longer (2 or 3 hours) it may have been better but it went from smooth with licorice to bitter by end of dinner. (3798 views)
Tasted by AtoZ on 1/4/2014 & rated 92 points: Fully mature. Nice. Refined. Not particularly complex or elegant. Enjoyable. (4012 views)
Tasted by Jflawrence on 10/19/2012: Also skunked. Argh! (5500 views)
Tasted by Jflawrence on 10/19/2012: Way past prime. Not drinkable. (4803 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
