Tasted by spendergast on 4/25/2023 & rated 95 points: Notes of dark fruit, candied cherry, red raspberry, cassis, along with floral elements and a little spice. Medium bodied with excellent mouthfeel and long finish. An excellent PN! Paired nicely with grilled tuna. (570 views)
Tasted by slywka7 on 3/10/2023 & rated 93 points: Decanted for 1 hour. Aromas of black cherry, sassafras, cola, cranberry and earth. Flavors of black cherry, cola, dried cranberry, earth and hint of balsamic. Ends with a big 30-35 second finish with notes of black cherry and cola. Certainly more restrained than it's heyday but the cola notes were nice and haven't had those in a Pinot in quite some time. (630 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 2/1/2023 & rated 93 points: WIML93

Tasted non blind.

Garnet to dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of birch, thatch, black cherries, black berries and a hint of dishwater. Flavors of raspberries and cherries dominate. Tart acidity, resolved tannin, full bodied. Drink now. (780 views)
Tasted by Fftjr on 1/21/2023 & rated 92 points: Drinking well. Very well blended fruit and tannin. (714 views)

Tasted by tomoem on 9/30/2021 & rated 93 points: I loved it. This wine brings huge acidity with cherry, licorice and some wood dominating the nose. In mouth the wine is more restrained with raspberry and cherry capturing most of the flavor. Finish is spiced and licorice dominated. The wine is very complex and worth finding. (1210 views)
Tasted by lvjohn on 9/13/2021 & rated 89 points: This was the weakest K-B pinot I've tasted. It was pleasant enough, but lacking the special verve that comes with this label. The basic elements were all there, but nothing special can be said about this bottle. Drank over two days with the second one not showing much at all. (1050 views)
Tasted by Atlbraves903 on 9/4/2020 & rated 76 points: Fruity flavor, slightly higher alcohol Taste that what I am used too. But an excellent wine (1661 views)
Tasted by SMZ on 6/2/2020 & rated 94 points: Beautiful wine....lush and velvety. I buy a lot of the Kanzler Winery wines, and they’re all great...so this is no surprise. (1466 views)
Tasted by Beezc on 4/18/2020 & rated 93 points: I agree with AG’s (Vinous) assessment of this wine. The balance of the wine is most pronounced.. Nothing else in particular stands out. (1143 views)
Tasted by lzelman on 3/22/2020 & rated 95 points: Amazing and delicious. (1131 views)
Tasted by pmarlo on 10/3/2019 & rated 94 points: Closed upon opening, quite muted, but sensed structure hovering beneath the surface. Day two much better, fruit dominant, very succulant. (1447 views)
Tasted by Schiffy on 9/19/2019 & rated 94 points: Sour cherry and raspberry fruit dominate the palate in this explosive Pinot Noir. Hints of licorice on the finish. This is a classic complex, beautifully structured wine from Kosta Browne. (1145 views)
Tasted by CADomer on 8/10/2019 & rated 92 points: Balanced and elegant. I feel like there is a slight shift in the wines at KB and this is the first wine that showed that to me. Seemed less glossy and wasn't all about pure pleasure. This seemed more serious. I am a long time KB buyer and have loved the pleasure driven rock n' roll style, but this is an interesting shift and I am looking forward to seeing it develop. (1146 views)
Tasted by nkirsch on 4/15/2019 & rated 94 points: Delicious. Great aroma and fruit as soon as it was opened. (1231 views)
Tasted by ashikoh on 3/16/2019 & rated 92 points: Fleshy with dark fruit, licorice, and polished tannins. 14.4% ABV. (1217 views)
Tasted by nkirsch on 2/24/2019 & rated 94 points: Outstanding. Opened and drank immediately. Great fruit, smooth, full flavor. (1048 views)
Tasted by air guitar & pinot noir on 10/30/2018 & rated 94 points: Outstanding offering from Kosta Browne that is perfectly humming at this juncture. Lovely red fruit including red raspberries and small red berries abound in a perfectly balanced and opulent frame. Just the right touch of ripeness allowing the telltale Sonoma flavor profile show through with the perfect hint of earthiness. Lovely from beginning to end with a persistent finish. Had me wanting more after the last glass. Great quality and harmony throughout. Not sure it could get much better. (1417 views)
Tasted by rustyRudy on 5/10/2018 & rated 97 points: This finished off a wonderful tour of their production facility. Everything you expect from KB, luscious rich fruit, gorgeous texture, great depth, black raspberry jam on the big nose and wonderfully balanced. Enough structure to keep for years but absolutely marvelous now. (1669 views)
Tasted by andrewdodd86 on 5/10/2018 & rated 98 points: @ Kosta Browne - Yowza, great red fruit, so lush, love the texture here. What a treat (1682 views)
Tasted by haldolugr on 3/21/2017 & rated 93 points: Red fruit with raspberry leading the way. Well integrated and a delicious finish in it's youth. Had a red wine hater drinking more then she wanted to admit to drinking. Boom! (2541 views)

Pinot Noir

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Jura, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Romania, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.

Pinot Noir is one of the world's most prestigious grapes. It is very difficult to grow and thrives well in France, especially in Champagne and Burgundy. Pinot Noir thrives less in hot areas, is picky on soil, and deserves some oak storage.

Pinot Noir, or Blauburgunder / Spätburgunder in German, is a blue grapevine - and, as the German name suggests, the grape comes originally from Burgundy in France.

The grape, which thrives in calcareous soils, is used primarily for the production of red wine, and it is widely regarded as producing some of the best wines in the world. The wine style is often medium-bodied with high fruit acidity and soft tannins. It can be quite peculiar in fragrance and taste, and not least in structure - which may be why it is referred to as "The Grapes Ballerina".
Pinot Noir is also an important ingredient in sparkling wines, not least in champagne since it is fruity, has good acidity and contains relatively little tannins.
The grape is considered quite demanding to grow. The class itself consists of tightly packed grapes, which makes it more sensitive to rot and other diseases.

Pinot Noir changes quite easily and is genetically unstable. It buds and matures early which results in it often being well ripened. Climate is important for this type of grape. It likes best in cool climates - in warm climates the wines can be relaxed and slightly pickled.
In cooler climates, the wine can get a hint of cabbage and wet leaves, while in slightly warmer regions we often find notes of red berries (cherries, strawberries, raspberries, currants), roses and slightly green notes when the wine is young. With age, more complex aromas of forest floor, fungi and meat emerge.

In Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary, it often produces light wines with less character. However, it has produced very good results in California, Oregon and New Zealand.

With its soft tannins and delicate aroma, it is excellent for white fish, chicken and light meat. For the stored wines you can serve small game. Classic duck breast is a matter of course, a Boeuf Burgundy and Pinot Noir are pure happiness.

Pinot Noir loses quality by over-harvesting.
Pinot Noir is prone to diseases, especially rot and mildew. Viruses cause major problems especially in Burgundy.
Pinot Noir are large round grapes with thin skins. Relatively high in alcohol content. Medium rich tannins and good with acid.
As a young person, Pinot Noir has a distinctly fruity character such as raspberries, cherries and strawberries.
A mature Pinot Noir, the taste is different. Cherry goes into plum and prune flavors. It smells of rotten leaves, coffee, moist forest floor and animal wine. This must be experienced.
In warm climates you find boiled plum, some rustic, little acid.
If the grapes are over-grown, the wine will be thin, with little color and flavor.

Kanzler Vineyard

Kanzler Vineyard began in 1996 as the dream of Steve and Lynda Kanzler. The vineyard location is near the edge of the Petaluma Gap land channel known as the Sebastopol Hills, which is a microclimate characterized by morning and evening fog, breezy afternoons and bright, but mild afternoon sun. The cooler temperatures allow for an extended hang time and produce grapes of uncommon intensity and complexity. The Kanzler Vineyard is usually the last Pinot Noir vineyard we harvest. The gently sloping vineyard is a former apple orchard, near the town of Sebastopol. Consisting of clones 115, 667 and Pommard, this vineyard delivers complexity, strength and purity, along with wines exhibiting a sensuous mouth feel. Kosta Browne's first vintage of Kanzler Vineyard was in 2002.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
