Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 89.6 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 14 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by tfesmgk on 2/26/2021 & rated 89 points: Let open for over an hour first night. More bite than I'm used to, not tannins. A little short on the finish. Nice fruit. Still drinkable but time to drink them up. (714 views)
Tasted by probraided on 12/12/2020: Thankfully, my last bottle of 3. Upon opening, a promising nose. Unfortunately, it didn't develop into anything special in the glass. Syrupy, dense, sweetish wine. Less pronounced alcohol than the bottle I had 2 years ago. Even though the label says 14.1%, I have hard time believing this is under 15%. Heavy wine, lacks elegance. Good match for grilled foods. Wouldn't enjoy on its own. (697 views)
Tasted by oeno615 on 8/30/2020 & rated 93 points: Spicy. Supple tannins. Very nice match to dry-brined, bone-in pork chops. Now may be within the optimum drinking window for this bottle. (724 views)
Tasted by Craig15 on 3/20/2019 & rated 88 points: High toned red fruit on the nose. Very thin body. Tart tart red fruit with a hint of fatty notes on the back end. Short finish. (1120 views)
Tasted by bigredPA on 4/19/2018 & rated 90 points: This is clean, linear. Notes of roasted coffee bean, nutmeg, white pepper,
dark berries, and ash. Drinkable now. Nice. (1223 views)
Tasted by mikecb on 9/27/2016 & rated 90 points: Deep syrah flavors, with quite a lot of oak.
The wine looks inky colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like coffee, toast, chocolate, prune, strawberry jam and forest floor. It tastes like prune, raisin, blackberry, blueberry, forest floor, cinnamon, nutmeg, coffee, toast, oak and vanilla. The body is medium. The wine has silky texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity. (1161 views)

Syrah

Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
