Community Tasting Notes (average 91.9 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 39 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Rickets on 7/10/2023 & rated 93 points: Last bottle of 4. In such a nice spot. Not hurry to drink either IMO. Wish I had more. (351 views)
Tasted by anstruletz on 5/21/2023: Every bottle is better than the last. Agree with everyone on this one - just the right age. And a phenomenal food wine to boot (431 views)
Tasted by RWG on 2/9/2023 & rated 91 points: really nice mature wine - interesting flavor profile, slightly sweet, great with sushi. amber color (602 views)
Tasted by RWG on 1/1/2023 & rated 91 points: everybody liked this one. super interesting bottle. (634 views)
Tasted by RWG on 11/19/2022 & rated 89 points: Nice, mature, better served colder. Enjoyed it (664 views)
Tasted by Russfeit on 4/6/2022 & rated 92 points: Not at all over the hill. Fruit has subsided but still fully present. Secondary floral and herbal notes were at the fore, maybe a slight touch of ox. Crowd loved it. Drink now, but no huge urgency. (760 views)
Tasted by Rickets on 3/18/2022 & rated 94 points: phenomenal. almost makes up for all the other duds I've bought from garagiste lately. (669 views)
Tasted by Ron Slye on 2/6/2022 & rated 90 points: Lovely ripe apple and pear on the nose Honey and the fruit notes carry to the palate. This was so different than whites I mostly drink. Quite compelling Not sure how to score as I don’t know what it should taste like. I guess given it’s subtlety and complexity I will say 90. (790 views)
Tasted by mardenimo on 12/13/2020 & rated 92 points: Eyes - gold to light amber
Nose - cooked apples, honey
Mouth - apple pie, mouthfeel - big, finish - med to long, alcohol - high, acid - light/medium, round and lush but elegant
Unique wine, medium value (1218 views)
Tasted by brianmik on 12/7/2020: Amber color and honeysuckle on the nose. Oxidized, but not overly so, and a little bit of acidic tinge. I picked up on the stone fruit flavor profile and the honeyed mouthfeel. (1224 views)
Tasted by geoffreychambertin on 9/22/2020 & rated 90 points: Surprised at how well this bottle is holding up. Went great with a pasta dish with ricotta, radicchio and bacon. (1288 views)
Tasted by vindictive on 9/8/2020: excellent, weighty white - unique flavor profile with stone fruits, nuts, lemon peel, honey. Some finishing bitterness that becomes savory with food - a fig, prosciutto pizza was a fantastic match (1196 views)
Tasted by anstruletz on 8/14/2020: The last bottle was great, but this one was excellent. After an hour, it coated the mouth with honey and preserved lemons with an incredibly long finish and an unctuousness that begged you me come back for another sip. (1151 views)
Tasted by mtaczak on 8/10/2020 & rated 93 points: super cool. nutty and just a touch sherried, but lots of honeyed character and weight and richness that shines around cellar temperature (not cold!). drinking fabulously. cork came out pristine - recorked at winery prior to hitting the distribution channels? (831 views)
Tasted by VDLT Wine on 7/25/2020: Second time in less than 2 weeks and this time from proper stemware. Similarly impressive and perhaps even fresher fruit. This wine has a real je ne sais quoi quality that keeps drawing you back to it. Once again, my only criticism is a lack of length. (783 views)
Tasted by VDLT Wine on 7/12/2020: Caveat, this was drunk from a simple plastic cup. Fascinating wine with some oxidative notes. I thought skin contact, but apparently not. Save for a short finish, this was impressive. (681 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 7/10/2020 & rated 92 points: WIML92

Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately.

Yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of quince, dried apricots and a hint of sherry. Flavors of quince, apricot and peach pit. Medium acidity, medium bodied. Drink now.

NOTE: bottle was purchased direct from winery recently. (837 views)
Tasted by Aravind Asok on 5/26/2020 flawed bottle: Sadly, slightly corked, but slight enough that it can be overlooked with effort. Beneath, nice tangerine, dusty minerals, soft peach, smoke and soft oxidative notes. On the palate, this shows rhe corkedness more, slightly flat and bitter. (875 views)
Tasted by dsamuel on 5/12/2020 & rated 94 points: Medium gold with amber tint
Medium plus aromas or ripe and unripe stonefruit/ honey and rocks/ salt with very pleasant mildly oxidative nutty notes
Full palate which echoes above aromas and additional tamarind quality and a beautiful mineral/ saline aspect at the finish
Medium high/ high acidity and long finish
This wine is simply beautiful at this stage - just a wonderful aged white wine
So glad I bought two bottles as the last one was much more oxidized - price you pay for aged whites (1075 views)
Tasted by gordoyflaca on 5/10/2020 & rated 92 points: I think on the downslope; honeysuckle, but lacking a bit of verve

Changing score now... needs time to open up. At 2 hrs now, acidity kicking in, with some tertiary flavors (856 views)
Tasted by anstruletz on 5/3/2020: I saw some reviews stating that this was overly-oxidized, but I found it to be in a perfect drinking window. Some age is certainly evident, but still showing tremendous structure and length. (987 views)
Tasted by S.Wayne on 5/3/2020: Single blind tasting.
Old gold with amber
Aromatics medium +. Oxidized. Honey and almond blossom. No oak
Palate medium. Acid medium. Phenolic bitterness. Honey, nuts with a secondary of flowers.
Finish has a medium + length. The balance is off due to its oxidation and relatively lack of acidity. (877 views)
Tasted by dsamuel on 4/29/2020 flawed bottle: Bottle oxidized - not past the enjoyment stage but definitely past the point where tasting notes are possible
Just purchased from Garagiste and disappointed as Im assuming this was library release from the winery
I have one more bottle and hopefully this will be better (972 views)
Tasted by mike l. on 3/3/2020 & rated 95 points: this is a special wine and absurd value. i;m going to be seeking this wine out everywhere i go.

verduzzo and tocai friuliano from colli orientali. 2 years on the lees in stainless. low intervention stuff. (paraphrasing from jancis, other sources say 100% tocai)

mineral driven finish and not totally dissimilar from really good aged white burgundy or chenin blanc. (1018 views)
Tasted by Thewinedork on 8/25/2018 & rated 92 points: Stunning. Waxy, elegant, floral, salty, an oxidized feel. Wished there was more. Acid still comes through on the backend, but round and lush upon first sip. (1783 views)

In the early 90's Ferdinando Zanusso acquired two ancient vineyards - twelve hectares of very old vines on steep, terraced hills in two of Friuli's best sites: eight in the Corno di Rosazzo, in the 'Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC district, and four in the Brazzano di Cormons, in the Collio district. Although the vines were in pathetic conditions, he saw that they could be saved. Ferdinando's aim was to make as 'transparent' a wine as possible, in which soil, climate and tradition show through the wine without interferences, intervention or 'imporovements', giving, in short, the purest expression of 'terroir'. This is achieved through organic cultivation in the vineyard, with naturally low yields (seldom reaching 20 hectolitres a hectare), and spontaneous, non-interventionalist winemaking to ensure absolute integrity. The first wine produced was in 1996. The wines are fermented using the vineyard's own yeast cultures, undergo a subsequent malolactic fermentation and are matured in stainless steel tanks for two years, with no racking or filtration. For such 'simple' wines these are in fact very intellectual

Friulano

Friulano (formerly Tocai Friulano, and also known as Sauvignonasse) is a grape variety most famous for its role in the white wines of Friuli, northeastern Italy.
These wines, usually varietal, are lively and fruit-driven with notes of citrus and almond, and often a touch of minerality. The grape is thought to be native to
South West France, where it is known as Sauvignonasse or Sauvignon Vert. However, it has moved on from its home and into northeastern Italy, where it has
quickly become one of the region's most classic styles. Mentions of wines called "Tocai" date back hundreds of years here, but as always, it is not clear exactly
what grape variety this refers to. Many local winemakers believe it to be Tocai Friulano.
