Tasted by 750ml on 8/10/2019 & rated 86 points: Ninety minute decant after half a glass; in retrospect, didn't change character. Somewhat closed nose of blackberry with a bit of pepper and vanilla oak. Solid and well integrated tannic backbone with a medium to thick mouthfeel. One dimensional cherry flavors for the palate. Not flawed, just lacking any complexity. Redeeming medium length finish. Throws a bit of sediment at the end. (858 views)
Tasted by whudock on 9/3/2018 & rated 89 points: I disagree with the naysayers who believe that this is not a good wine. It has clear cherry and pine flavors, is well-balanced and works well both with and without food. The finish is a bit short, but there are no other flaws. (849 views)
Tasted by 750ml on 9/9/2017 & rated 85 points: Blackberry, plum and vanilla on the nose. Medium bodied with tannins well integrated. Ordinary raspberry and cherry flavors forward palate, some spice mid-palate. Decent medium length finish, although a medicinal aftertaste is present. May have been reasonable at the original price point, however I bought this late at a premium. (1243 views)

Tasted by THF49 on 1/13/2017 & rated 86 points: a disappointing Aussie Shiraz; bland and no full mouth joy; where is the 90 point WA coming from? (1550 views)
Tasted by Margaux Bro on 9/14/2016 & rated 89 points: After two hours in the decanter it came together quite well actually. (1338 views)
Tasted by BrunelloBob on 3/5/2016 & rated 89 points: Really liked this in a big Aussie shiraz kind-of way. Followed a bottle of "The Show" that Kevin brought, and showed noticeably well even as the second bottle. (1490 views)
Tasted by Mountain Sparty on 9/11/2015 & rated 87 points: After reading the comments on this wine you'd think this was Mad Dog 20-20. But I enjoyed it. A fairly unusual taste with some tannins but they didn't linger long. (1218 views)
Tasted by Justinneal654 on 8/29/2015 & rated 89 points: Smouldering oak and blackberry on the nose. Fruit dominates early palate with a soft cocoa texture. Enjoyable but not impressive. Prefer with a meal. (245 views)
Tasted by Rarffa on 3/11/2015 & rated 90 points: Lots of ripe blackberry and plum fruit with licorice and earth. There is still a moderately tannic backbone. (1563 views)
Tasted by Jaz44 on 11/7/2014 & rated 75 points: Very sharp. No fruit. Medicinal taste (1585 views)
Tasted by Glenn92 on 11/5/2014 & rated 89 points: Good spices on the nose Bounces a bit but just opened Great aftertaste with eucalyptus intertwined (1252 views)
Tasted by Andrew H on 10/13/2014 & rated 90 points: A rich wine with big cherry and dried red fruit with a hefty dose of vanilla and oak (1154 views)
| Tasted by leener10 on 2/17/2014: Deep-deep red, heavy viscosity.
Powerful nose. Windex, alcohol, spicy.
Bone dry, astringent, medium-full body, marked acidity, good balance but off-putting nose.
Coarse and rich wine. (1948 views) |
Tasted by ViticultureShock on 1/11/2014 & rated 88 points: Does seem a bit thin for a BV Shiraz, but quite drinkable. Fairly soft tannins and pretty well balanced. (1445 views)
Tasted by 3daywinereview.com on 10/30/2013 & rated 80 points: Hennepin Lake's Annual Tasting (Tons of Napa Cabs); 10/30/2013-11/2/2013: This is why Australia is struggling. This stuff is not drinkable. Too much eucalyptus on this one. Nothing exciting and one of the worst wines of the year candidate. (2646 views)
Tasted by tominasia on 9/5/2013 & rated 87 points: Tannins softened on the second day and the rich fruit and slight spice provided nice depth and a great finish. I've had 2010 and 2008 vintages as well. I've enjoyed them all and they're an excellent QPR to boot. Good to keep on hand. (1297 views)
Tasted by startinoz on 7/26/2013 & rated 90 points: Although clearly better than the Sandpiper, this is a light-ish bodied shiraz. Spicy oak. Bright. Savoury. Touch of Brett? Not bad for a 2011. (1375 views)
| Tasted by azzah on 1/7/2013 & rated 86 points: Red purple colour - but looks dilute for a Barossa red, as it might with the cool, wet vintage.
The aromas are dilute too, with raspberry/cherry, mixing it up with plum, blackberry, and a good hit of vanilla oak.
This all continues on to the palate. There has obviously been a lot of oak added to this to cover up the weak nature of the fruit.
There's nothing wrong with the wine. It's just a very forgettable experience.
For a bitch, I ordered a 2010 of this at a restaurant, and they gave me the 2011. It was pretty obviously not a 2010. I did complain and explained to them the importance of vintage. I'm not sure they really got it though. (1253 views) |
