Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 92.2 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 52 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by ricard on 4/4/2024 flawed bottle: A touch oxidative on the nose. Some fruit there but the oxidation is overpowering. And regrettably it is also corked. Waaaah! What a terrible shame. (395 views)
Tasted by cweiss on 3/31/2023: An advanced bottle. Potable but a big disappointment. At 1855 Pinot dinner. (935 views)
Tasted by jreis on 11/23/2022: Popped and poured at cellar temp. Deep orange gold color. Nose is still quite reserved, with some hints of caramel, orange marmalade and limestone. Lovely sweet citrus fruit with a hint of caramel on the attack but incredible robust acidity on the finish keeps it from being cloying. Opened to have with chicken tikki masala - I think it will be a great pairing. Despite the advanced color, this wine still drinks like a youngster at 25 with many good years ahead of it. (1119 views)
Tasted by Caruso on 2/6/2022 & rated 93 points: Deep golden with orange amber hue. The cork of this bottle was not as soaked (approx. 70%) as the cork from previous bottles, though all bottles have been stored under textbook conditions. This remains a bit shy and delivers medium intensity with scents of honey and peaches. On the palate in addition caramel, hints of orangepeel and campher. Tannic, medium intense finish. Only medium sweet, not ideal to go with a dessert, but with deer e. g. The 98 points (drinking window -2020) given by Stephan Reinhardt from the WA, are not comprehensible for me. 5/12/17/9, -2025 or maybe longer if the bottles are recorked. (1919 views)
Tasted by cnichelson on 10/30/2021 & rated 96 points: Dark orange color, more advanced than previous bottles. Butterscotch and apricot. Delicious with duck rilletes! No need to wait, but no need to be in a hurry. (2038 views)
Tasted by Anders Danielsen Lie on 6/15/2021 & rated 88 points: Ganske kompleks på duft med røyk, smørbukkaramell, korinter, gul cheninfrukt, aprikos. Druetypisk uten at det er sjenerende. Veldig lett på smak, på grensen til litt vandig i utgang. Litt uren finish, flaskefeil? Den er god og spennende, men frukten er litt på hell. (2688 views)
Tasted by AudunG on 12/14/2019 & rated 92 points: Amber yellow. Intense aromas of something like orange marmalade, honey and dried yellow fruits. Sweet, ripe and concentrated in the mouth. (2729 views)
Tasted by Caruso on 1/20/2019 & rated 89 points: Orange tinted yellow. If one reads the community notes, it becomes obvious that there are some problems, as a lot of corked bottles for example, with this wine in this vintage. This bottle was stored under perfect conditions since release. First the nose is not only tight, but nearly non existent. With air in a bordeaux glass and nearly at roomtemperature it gives some notes of apricot, peach, caramel and beeswax. On the palate it is much better and shows more intensity. The sweetness is perfectly balanced by refreshing acidity. However a fungus like note is present on the nose and I'm not quite sure if it is has some TCA or this note belongs to the wine, because on the palate it is less obvious. Overall it is a confusing experience again, but much better than a previous bottle. 5/10/16/8 -2040+ if optimal stored and maybe recorked. TWA gave it 91 points and complaint that another bottle was corked.

P.S. A decant took away great parts of the fruit and makes the TCA contamination obvious. Nevertheless it was low enough to imagine what the wine could have been without it. Very good, but not more. (3229 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 10/22/2018 & rated 92 points: In such a lovely place right now. Opened this for my sister, who is 21 and was born in 97, and she loved it. As did I! Pretty apricot color. Lovely nose of orange marmalade, honey, sea salt, candle wax, clover. Plump, yes it's sweet but the acidity is crisp and keeps it focused. This wine is all about richness, texture and balance. Apricot, candied orange peel, mixed with spiced apple, honey (lots of it) and graham crackers. Rich but nuanced and complex, this seems like it has so many years still ahead. (2907 views)
Tasted by VinoVeloVinyl on 6/21/2018 & rated 96 points: 2017s From Domaine Huet (Armit Wines): Well this is barely getting going even at 21 years of age. It has a really fresh and pure mineral palate with a delicacy and light touch that surprises for a wine of this richness (note richness, not sweetness is the key here). Insane length, years of life ahead. (3602 views)
Tasted by RayOB on 11/2/2017 & rated 92 points: Drank in HK
Incredible balance and not overly sweet. (3177 views)

(2837 views)
Tasted by KeithAkers on 12/22/2016 & rated 93 points: A Thursday night at Rich's (Chez Nanda): Nose: The nose is refined and aromatic with honey, lanolin, spiced pears, red apples, minerals, peach tones, and white florals. There is excellent depth and while it shows the residual sugar, it is far from cloying.

Taste: Full bodied with high acidity. The acidity provides a nice spine and is refreshing. There is excellent density, depth, and class with honey, lanolin, red apples, minerals, and peach tones.

Overall: This is fantastic. It is drinking extremely well right now, but there feels like there is much more to give. (2436 views)
Tasted by m_arcon on 11/22/2016 & rated 93 points: Meiningers Finest 100: International Wine Summit (Saalbau, Neustadt an der Weinstraße): Still so fresh & youthful. Quince, dried apricots and a hint of honey. Lively acidity, medium body with a lot of depth. Long finish. Can age easily for another 20-30 years imo. Bottles was straight from the cellar of the property. (3862 views)
Tasted by Caruso on 10/11/2016 & rated 84 points: orange, smells of nothing, on the palate a bit of honey, brown sugar and a little fruit. What went wrong here? I hope it is just an off bottle. (2758 views)
Tasted by Mlermontov on 6/5/2015 & rated 92 points: Maison Kayser - The Brad Kane Experience; 6/2/2015-6/6/2015: color always scares me in the 97s. dark orange with a hint of gold. but as soon as one smells the wine - the fear dissipates - no sign of oxidation. papaya, sweet ripe orchard fruit. bit of dry apricots, nice acidity even for such a ripe and rich mid. finish is good but perhaps is the weak point right now. (4162 views)
Tasted by RayOB on 1/22/2015 & rated 92 points: Drank in Hong Kong
Medium sweet with honey, apples and brown sugar on the nose. Medium length. (3425 views)
Tasted by f22nickell on 11/27/2014 & rated 93 points: Somewhat advanced. Golden honey/amber color. Nose has mild to medium honey, botrytis, and tart fruit. Palate is rich and sweet, with plenty of concentrated honey and apricots. Not too thick on the palate texturally, but just downright delicious. (3362 views)
Tasted by Vino Me on 8/19/2014 & rated 94 points: Opened by Allred with dessert of a chocolate acorn cake with pistachio ice cream. This wine reminded me how much I like Huet and the fact it has been too long since I've had one (6 years ago). Amber yellow color. A very fruit forward wine with ripe grape, orange and honey notes. An integrated and flowing wine. 93-94 points. (3306 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 8/16/2014 & rated 91 points: Light golden copper color with notes of blood orange, pear liqueur, honey and chamomile. Good underlying acidity and balanced, with flavors of stone fruit and honey fruit on the palate and a medium+ finish. (3110 views)
Tasted by deon40g on 8/2/2014 & rated 92 points: Wine Spectator rates the 1997 Domaine Huet Vouvray Moelleux 1ère Trie Le Mont an impressive 95 points. I rate this wine 92 points, which directly aligns with the current CellarTracker community rating. This is my first exposure to a Vouvray wine and one of the most mature/aged wines I have experienced. This bottle was quite the treat. Echoing the observations of previous CT reviewers, this wine has a deep golden color and a healthy sweetness. Diverging a bit from most reviews, I feel the body is medium weight, as opposed to light. There is a notable viscosity on the palate, with flavors of honeysuckle, apricot, and sweet iced tea with lemon. No real tannins here, but there is a bit of light acidity. Given the age of the wine, I feared it may be beyond its prime, but that is hardly the case. I have seen this wine at auction, but it is still available at random brick & mortar locations for approximately $100. I know...that is pretty steep for a chenin blanc, but this is not your California grocery store chenin, it is a Vouvray. I am writing this review from several months in retrospect and I have already purchased another bottle of the 1997 Domaine Huet Vouvray Moelleux 1ère Trie Le Mont to repeat the experience. Bravo!

Tasted by GAET on 6/15/2014 & rated 94 points: Bu ce jour en accompagnement d'un foie gras poché au poivre.
Bouchon : entamé à la moitié
Robe : vieil or, brillante, de fines larmes
Nez : relativement absent au départ, il faut attendre une heure avant qu'apparaisse, la fleur d’acacia, le miel, la fleur de sureau...
Bouche : c'est la délicatesse même, la finesse, mais avec une très belle longueur en bouche.

Excellent (2207 views)
Tasted by Mlermontov on 6/6/2014 & rated 89 points: Dinner at the Cookshop withTom, Lyle and Brent: orange color - darker than i expected and darker than the 97 De Bourg we had recently (same cellar), candied lemon, oranges, floral. light and balanced mid. elegant but not very memorable. finish is there and perhaps the most impressive part of the wine right now. will check in tonight. (2659 views)
Tasted by Drinking Trees on 1/22/2014: Nose of rotten honey, botrytis and blue cheese. Palate shows flavours of slightly burnt honey, sweet lemon curd, lychee and pink fairy floss. Tasted better than these notes make it sound: not particularly focused, but sweet and yummy. (2465 views)
Tasted by Ludi on 11/4/2013 & rated 92 points: Dorato intenso. Al naso nocciola, note fumé, albicocca, dragoncello, zucchero a velo, porridge, cotognata . Bocca intensa, freschissima, di grande equilibrio e lunga, elegante persistenza (2251 views)
