Tasted by PetterE on 11/28/2021 & rated 82 points: Middag med Camillas föräldrar Marisol och Alberto. Hallon, björnbär, trä. Fylligt som tusan! (994 views)
Tasted by Blankje on 2/2/2021 & rated 91 points: Sadly I only have one more bottle out of 3 cases purchased in 2012. Still singing with deep purple fruit, gripping tannins, and enough acid to keep everything perfectly balanced. Some leather and camphor notes to boot. Love this wine. (1378 views)
Tasted by Pluecht on 3/24/2020 & rated 91 points: Drinking beautifully. (1614 views)
Tasted by lvjohn on 1/9/2020 & rated 94 points: Amazing wine! Deep rich red and dark red fruit flavors and spice. It evolved in the decanter and the glass over the course of the evening. Tasted great with food and on its own. I got a hint of an over-oxidized wine, but that disappeared with about 15 minutes of being in our glasses. There are solids in the bottle so beware when decanting. I am guessing this might have another year of good drinking ahead of it. (1713 views)
Tasted by ddingley on 3/13/2019 & rated 93 points: Drinking beautifully. Still enough grip to go a few more years but seemingly at peak. (1885 views)
Tasted by mattscellar1 on 1/5/2019 & rated 97 points: One of my very favorite wines goes with just about anything fillet meatloaf fondue (1555 views)
 Tasted by mattscellar1 on 12/2/2018 & rated 88 points: Nice (1273 views)
Tasted by ddingley on 4/15/2018 & rated 92 points: This really drank well on both of two nights (with a pump after first night). Didn't take long to open up, and was very Cab-like in fruit and intensity and some smoke and tobacco, but very smooth and balanced at the end. While Cab-like, had that unmistakably Tuscan terroir that I can't find the right words for. Good on its own, even better with the traditional spaghetti/meat sauce combo. (1535 views)
Tasted by mattscellar1 on 2/28/2018 & rated 94 points: Fresh alive good on the back of the mouth wonderful (1500 views)
Tasted by micsauer on 3/26/2017 & rated 93 points: Beautiful wine. Dark, almost violet red. Wonderful red berry aromas. On the palate showing wonderful and smooth cherry, raspberry and blackberry aromas, ending with a white pepper / spicy note. Tannins were medium strong, the wine has many years to go. On the second day same strong showing! (2128 views)
Tasted by m.lupus on 11/3/2016 & rated 91 points: Dark, chewy, and intense. Not quite at its peak yet. (2265 views)
Tasted by lvjohn on 10/22/2016 & rated 94 points: Better than our first bottle. Decanted to remove the solids and give it some air. Started drinking about 45 minutes later. Very deep almost opaque purple. This Sangiovese blend possesses great mouth feel, richness and intensity without being an overbearing dinner companion. Primarily tastes of rich red and dark fruits with spices and some earthiness. This bottle tastes fine without any food. After several hours much of its richness passed and a mineral character emerged. This wasn't unpleasant, just different. (2291 views)
Tasted by Radboy on 4/27/2016 & rated 91 points: Better after an hour decant. (2236 views)
Tasted by Radboy on 11/15/2015 & rated 92 points: I think they make these bottles too small because every one we open disappears way too fast. Excellent, pure fruit deftly balanced in body. Delicious. (2668 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 9/17/2015 & rated 92 points: Monthly tasting club "The Tasting Club" 2015-06; Tuscany (except Chianti) (@ My place): A special blend: 40% Montepulciano , 35% Sangiovese, 15% Marselan, 5% Alicante Bouchet and 5% unknown. The wine gets French oak, but I have no details.Beautiful bouquet with red fruits, sweet spices, lavender, tobacco and a pleasant touch of barnyard. On the palate concentrated dark fruits, red fruits, plum, tobacco and good oak. Beautiful acidity and healthy, round tannin with good bitterness in the finish. A really lovely and exiting wine with good complexity. Ready now and the next 3+ years. (2735 views)
Tasted by Uncle John on 4/27/2015 & rated 91 points: Upon opening this showed beautiful dark fruit with luxurious oak and nice acidity. After 3 hours slow ox it was quite tight but opened up again after another hour in the glass. I think this needs some time in the cellar but has nice potential. (2292 views)
Tasted by lvjohn on 2/13/2015 & rated 93 points: Rich and robust. Deep purple going into the decanter. Drank over the course of the evening. Really is a wine that should be consumed with food. On its own, it's not so interesting. With food, wow! Nice Sangiovese notes along with spiciness. It still seemed pretty young. (2457 views)
Tasted by randyjc on 2/3/2015 & rated 90 points: Better second night - developed some depth. Remained solid the third night. A wine of restrained power and masculinity and quite delicious. Just missing something to be a top-shelf wine - balance maybe? It also had an odd hint of green or vegetal character which may have been bottle variation as I don't recall it from the first time I had the wine. Still, a nice experience at a reasonable price. (2270 views)
Tasted by bonedoc on 11/2/2014 & rated 93 points: Delicious 2nd night. Deep, dark, ripe, structured. Paired well w meat sauce. (2233 views)
Tasted by GoBlue2002 on 5/28/2014 & rated 90 points: Teeth staining fun!
An interesting and unique blend of varietals - all Italian. Earth , floral, and dried fruit with a hint of spice. This was quite well balanced with enough acidity for dinner but was pleasant enough before dinner. Drying finish with minimal fruit, but overall smooth. (2722 views)
Tasted by WineCPA on 3/8/2014 & rated 92 points: Really good! A core of dark black fruit. Decanted for an hour or so. Black cherry and blackberry mixed with some spice for a long finish. Needed the air to open up, but drank very well now. Moderate tannins. Drink now-2017. (2756 views)
Tasted by Rezy13 on 3/7/2014 & rated 89 points: Friday Night Double Blind $30+ (Bin 75): Dark core with garnet rim; chestnut, acorn, red fruit and vegetal, lots of mushroom, asparagus; darker fruit on the palate, slightly brooding with its copious tannin that dries out your mouth, lower acid, lots of leather; good and interesting even though the note sounds so negative. (2888 views)
Tasted by quaffnov on 2/1/2014 & rated 88 points: Had this bottle with an Italian dinner, pairing with food made a big difference, before the meal this was closed and somewhat underwhelming, during the meal it opened up and had much more character. (2582 views)
Tasted by rsbeck on 1/25/2014: Popped, poured, followed over next 90 minutes. Some good things going on, but marred by the hot alcohol entry and finish. (2333 views)
Tasted by FLI on 10/14/2013 & rated 88 points: Better than last bottle. Big fruit, but a bit hot. (2260 views)

Montepeloso
Tuscany, Italy

Tucked away in the hills of Suvereto near Bolgheri on the Tuscan Coast – one of the hottest areas in Tuscany – is the 15-acre Montepeloso estate. The winemaker, Swiss-born Fabio Chiarelotto, admits about his wine that it’s “easy produce concentrated wines in such a hot climate…but it’s much harder to achieve elegance and finesse.” In order to take full advantage of the terroir’s potential, he overhauled the vineyards in 1997 – retraining, pruning, and even regrafting many vines. In the cellar, he does relatively short macerations, employs natural yeasts during fermentation, and bottles without filtration.

Nardo (Tuscan dialect for lavender), remains Montepelosos’ flagship wine. It is an unfiltered blend of approximately 70% Sangiovese, 20% Montepulciano, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and never made in a quantity of more than 400 cases a year.

Beginning in 1997, there is a second luxury cuvée, made in even smaller quantities—Gabbro, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from 35 year-old years. Approximately 120 cases are produced.

The estate’s basic Rosso was renamed Eneo for the 2000 vintage. This wine has emerged as something special in its own right since Chiarelotto’s arrival, and the new name celebrates that fact. It remains primarily Sangiovese, with Colorino and Merlot, and is aged in 2nd and 3rd year French barrique. It remains a pure and powerful, yet elegant example from this heralded zone of Tuscany.

Production will gradually increase as the young vineyards reach maturity. For now, these remain among Italy’s elite rarities.

Sangiovese Blend

Sangiovese blend is used in CellarTracker for Italian wines to represent wines predominantly made of Sangiovese and blended with traditional Italian grapes. It is different than SuperTuscan which is a blend of Sangiovese with non-traditional (eg Bordeaux) varieties, often in closer to equal portions. For example, Chianti is at least 80% Sangiovese and will always be listed Sangiovese blend.
