| Community Tasting Notes (average 92.6 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 99 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by drwine2001 on 12/3/2023: Sauternes Chinese Banquet Dinner: Half bottle. Tasted blind. Full yellow. Lots of botrytis and sweet stone fruit. Some secondary perfume. Quite sweet and liquoreux with vanilla and spice. Rich but reasonably well balanced. Very good Sauternes look alike. (842 views) | | Tasted by aagrawal on 12/3/2023 & rated 88 points: All-sauternes dinner; 12/2/2023-12/3/2023 (R&G Lounge, San Francisco): Tasted blind. Orange marmalade, balanced, not overly alcoholic, simple on the finish but very nice! Probably one of the better examples of a botrytized wine outside of sauternes. 88 (714 views) | | Tasted by ohne_musik on 12/3/2023 & rated 92 points: All Sauternes, All Night (R & G Lounge, SF): Drank as part of a blockbuster Sauternes night - my blind ringer. A bit ungiving aromatically. Light in color and body, softly sweet, with apricot, barley sugar, grapefruit peel. A bit on the simpler side, but very tasty. (537 views) | | Tasted by markcic on 10/28/2023 & rated 92 points: Last night we hosted our annual Halloween dinner party (no costumes we are all getting too old for that) and after 2 bottles of Meursault, 1/2 of a bottle of chardonnay, a half bottle of cabernet, a magnum of an excellent Hermitage. The group wanted dessert wine to go with my wife's incredible, almost legendary, cheese cake. So I opened this bottle (I love my friends dearly but at this point I was not going to waste a bottle d'yquem on them) the color is deep yellow, almost golden. The nose is over ripe orchard fruit with hints of honey. The palate was apricot, guava, peach and honey. The finish was moderate to long and left a nice feel in the mouth. A very enjoyable wine. And yes everyone ubered home. No driving allowed at my dinner parties. (580 views) | | Tasted by galewskj on 6/15/2023 & rated 91 points: Quite dense and oily. A little cloying, needs some acid to go with the pleasant honey and stone fruit. (899 views) | | Tasted by rocknroller on 6/11/2023 & rated 91 points: Monthly Tasting Group: Blind Worldwide Chardonnay (COV, Edina, MN): Deep gold color. Drank a small glass over 30 minutes. Dense, oily, full bodied, apricot, peach, condied orange peel, spiced, high toned, broad and honeyed. (1085 views) | | Tasted by Kenzin97 on 4/17/2022 & rated 96 points: I have resisted drinking this wine for 11 long years and my patience was rewarded. I wish i had purchased more than one bottle but back then i did not know what i did not know. It was a wonderful sipping experience with flavors of honeyed pears, peaches and apricots that lingered on and on without ever becoming cloying or too sweet. stupidly delicious. Lucky for me i also have the 2011 version which i will hold off on drinking for a few more yrs (1076 views) | | Tasted by lvjohn on 6/24/2020 & rated 94 points: Amazing Sauterne-like wine from CA! Tastes like a good French Sauterne without the pedigree. Maybe just a little thin at times, but at others, its really very lovely. Great effort from Bedrock. (1800 views) | | Tasted by vanpe003 on 11/6/2019 & rated 95 points: Absolutely delightful. Richly perfumed nose. Gobs of honey on the palate, extremely long-lived finish. Admittedly doesn't have a ton of remaining acidity, which has seemed to have dissipated since a tasting a number of years ago. But there's still enough balance for me. I also can enjoy a higher acid rendition, but this one is perfectly suited to tonight's occasion. A great aperitif. (1785 views) | | Tasted by Jahull03 on 8/31/2019: Wow - perfect tonight. Happy (early) birthday Monica - oldest semillon in the new world.
This has settled into a nice state - maturing-ish, and will probably continue to evolve and not lose a step for two decades + given the acid, sweetness, structural balance. So lovely. (1576 views) | | Tasted by rocknroller on 8/17/2019 & rated 88 points: Brad Feels Like Cooking Dinner (Brad's Place, St. Paul, MN): Medium gold color. Small taste from 375ml. Orange, mango, very tropical, sappyy and very sweet. This has a very flashy nose, but there just isn't the acidity to adequately balance the level of sweetness on the palate for me. A little goes a long way. Those who don't need the acidity will find this better. (2046 views) | | Tasted by buckeye76 on 3/15/2019 & rated 94 points: Similar tasting notes as previous tasting. Very well done, delicious! (1681 views) | | Tasted by prasm on 11/8/2017 & rated 91 points: Pop and pour. Nose: Medium expressiveness, apricot, pine apple upside down cake, creme brulee, nectarine, and peach cobbler. Palate: Thick and sweet attack, creamy mouth-feel, apricot and canned pear appear thru the mid-palate, good persistence from front to back. (2014 views) | | Tasted by MarkC on 8/20/2017: I don't really write notes anymore, but this was awesome. One of the best California dessert wines I've had outside of Mr. K/SQN. Sweet, but not cloying, rich, but not dense. Apricot, honey, hints of spice--wow! (2189 views) | | Tasted by Sijan on 3/1/2017: Lovely stuff! (2301 views) | | Tasted by RichEB1 on 11/24/2016 & rated 96 points: Are you freaking kidding me. This is seriously just silly, SILLY, delicious. Great nose of what I associate with strong late harvest semillon based wines (i.e. honeycomb, white florals, etc), but the palate. Oh man, the palate. Honestly, this is in the running for my top 5 WOTY. Honeyed peaches, pears, spices, and everything nice. Very deep and sweet, but plenty of acidity to keep this from reaching that 'over the top level'. This wine walks the line but clearly ends up on the more balanced side of the fence, and is certain to drink well and gain complexity for 20 years down the road....but damn is it good right now. Couldn't be happier to have 3 in the cellar, but I know that won't be nearly enough. Happy Thanksgiving indeed!! (2425 views) | | Tasted by coremill on 8/14/2016 & rated 88 points: 13% alc, 200 g/L RS. Wow is this sweet. Candied peach and apricot, a hint of lemon drop, and sugar sugar sugar. In fact, some of the sugar had precipitated out of solution and was left in the bottle. Concentrated but not exactly syrupy, there's a lot of acid but not enough to really cut the sugar. This was too sweet for me on its own -- it needed to be poured on ice cream or offset by cheese or something. (2758 views) | | Tasted by pakabear on 9/24/2015 & rated 92 points: Lemon Meringue, passion fruit, appricot, nice extraction and balance. Not super complex but the QPR for this is outstanding. (2841 views) | | Tasted by dcwino on 9/24/2015 & rated 93 points: TN: Dinner 95 & 98 Rayas, 03 Lafite, 95 Trotanoy, 04 Blankiet, 05 Dom and etc. (Eddie V's): Opulent tropical fruits, mango, apricot and honey. Quite dense but not cloying. Impressive polished palate. Not terribly complex but really delicious. (3282 views) | | Tasted by buckeye76 on 1/4/2015 & rated 95 points: PEACHES, NECTARINES, AND MELONS IN THE NOSE AND FLAVOR. NICE LEGS AND A LONG FINISH. (1129 views) | | Tasted by dgriffin3480 on 10/24/2014 & rated 94 points: Full rich flavors of honey, apricot, mango, and candied citrus with a background smokiness. Good balance and restrained sweetness for a dessert wine, with a surprisingly light body given the rich, full flavors. (3513 views) | | Tasted by dlstrauss on 10/23/2014 & rated 96 points: unbelievably good (3192 views) | | Tasted by danielbleier on 10/12/2014 & rated 94 points: Gobs of apricot and honey, with a touch of orange acidity on the finish. Full bodied but very nimble. Lovely dessert wine. (3024 views) | | Tasted by Zonk on 6/24/2014 & rated 94 points: No notes as it was at the end of a long string of wines, but One of the best dessert wines I have tried. (3081 views) | | Tasted by pdemaio on 5/12/2014 & rated 95 points: Wow, what a sauterne like example of CA dessert wine. Really extraordinary! | Bedrock Wine Co. Producer website2009 Bedrock Wine Co. Sémillon Lachryma Montis, Botrytized Old Vine Monte Rosso VineyardLachryma Montis means “tears of the mountain” in Latin, which somehow seems fitting for this unctuous wine made from the ancient-vine Semillon growing high up on Mount Veeder on brick-red soils. First off, this wine will not be a yearly thing, rather will only be made when conditions for botrytis are right (none will be made in 2010). The grapes were picked at the end of the first week of November in 2009 at 40.6 brix. After pressing, the juice was put into 100% new French Oak and allowed to barrel ferment slowly over the course of ten months, followed by an additional two months of lees contact and stirring. The final wine is just under 13% alcohol with a little over 200 grams-per-liter of residual sugar. As one might expect it tastes like apricot preserves swirled with tupelo honey, exotic vanilla, wafer, and spice. Drinking window: 2012-2030. 5 barrels produced.USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sonoma CountyMendocino CountySonoma ValleySonoma County, California, is one of the most important winegrowing regions in the whole of the United States. Vines have been planted here since the 1850s and, apart from the inevitable hiatus brought about by Prohibition, the county's relationship with wine has been prolific and unbroken.
Viticulturally speaking, Sonoma County is divided into three distinct sections: Sonoma Valley, Northern Sonoma and Sonoma Coast. Each of these has its own AVA title and encompasses several sub-AVAs within its boundaries. |
