Tasted by Barry G on 4/20/2016 & rated 70 points: NEWTS Tasting. D'Arenberg - Style over substance or substance over style (Newcastle upon Tyne): Unoaked shiraz. Nose is very inviting; smoky and deep with slight eucalyptus. A touch of rubber even. Inviting and open.

The palate is more austere with a greenness noted. It's med bodied with medium tannin that are fairly integrated. The fruit fades quickly leaving the alcohol on the finish.

Nose better than palate. (2435 views)
Tasted by indiscriminate palate on 11/26/2015: Medium-intensity nose of dark berries, lots of smoke, and cocoa. Rich, silky palate with some prickly red fruit. Fairly simple, but rich, with a hint of sweetness and a note of cocoa. Fairly short finish. Simple, big, but also a nice crowd pleaser. Okay. (2560 views)
Tasted by K&J on 8/17/2015 & rated 84 points: Liked it less this time. Don't think it was well made. (2746 views)
Tasted by robertduffy on 7/5/2015 & rated 90 points: One of the better Shiraz's. Very drinkable and nicely priced. Full of flavor. (2829 views)
Tasted by K&J on 5/17/2015 & rated 85 points: A fine wine for the price. Not extraordinary but for the price, a nice wine. (2920 views)
Tasted by Tony Poli on 5/14/2015 & rated 88 points: Not a huge amount to say about this, except these Stump Jump wines always seem to deliver more than expected for the price. This had a bit of barnyard on the nose, along with the red fruit. Pleasant simple palate, fruity with some acidity, and would be a worthy Cotes du Rhone. Nice. (1432 views)
Tasted by WineCenturyAZ on 2/6/2015 & rated 79 points: Had this at a Syrah/Shiraz tasting event and tasted side by side with juice from Columbia Valley, Arizona and France. This reminded us why Aussie Shiraz hasn't been in our cellar for years. Nose was smokey, palate was restrained, flat and finish was short. Not much there and none of the characteristics of Shiraz from the pre boom days. There is nothing bad about this bottle, just nothing good either. (1522 views)
Tasted by Brettski80 on 1/30/2015 & rated 87 points: Soft, structured, chocolate, raspberry nuances and a hint of savoury liquorice. Short n sweet and super cheap. (1205 views)
Tasted by RMapou on 10/7/2014 & rated 88 points: I enjoyed the fullness of this wine. Sorry I did not buy more at this price. (1324 views)
Tasted by Ombibulous on 10/3/2014 & rated 82 points: The appearance looks like a Pinot Noir. The nose is not impressive at first; menthol, almost smoke, and mocha, in an unusual sort of way. On the palate, much like the nose, with German chocolate cake. The finish is short, with not much fruit, then blech, or at least blah. Not much fruit flavour to speak of. Essentially Old World in style, which is unexpected from a Shiraz from Oz. Not my style. However, it would probably go swimmingly with food. Overall value: 2.5 stars of 5. Overall impression: Mid-Good (82.5). (1179 views)
 Tasted by YackAttack213 on 9/29/2014: 3.5*
Cherry flavour with spice and strong but not overpowering new oak. Really good, not just for the price. (65 views)
Tasted by pkbowen on 7/3/2014 & rated 85 points: Big and bold, everything you would expect from this Aussie Shiraz. Overall not too bad. Might encourage me to explore a few more similar wines.

Color has a nice purple tint. Aerated and left in the glass ~30 minutes or so. Nose was huge on tobacco after a good swirl and faded to lavender on the second sniff. Palette was big on dark fruit early but also had a bright note, which I didn't expect. The brightness faded to yield candied fruit, tobacco, and vanilla. Finish was average length, bitter, and floral. (1313 views)
Tasted by Jeffyboy on 3/4/2014 & rated 81 points: Australia in Winecorner March 2014 (Winecorner - wine shop, Bialy Kamien, Warsaw, Poland): Violet, quite clear. Nose: bit sharp dark fruits, spicy but really not bad as for bottom line. Taste: quite tart, with bitter finish. Not my cup of tea. (2091 views)
Tasted by marcwebb on 1/17/2014 & rated 87 points: very nice ... we liked it (1445 views)
Tasted by Mlbarrowjr on 12/23/2013 & rated 81 points: Tame. Not as good as prior attempts. (1141 views)
Tasted by LeChapeau on 12/8/2013 & rated 85 points: OK wine, but nothing special. A bit of a tease - somewhat interesting nose, but light bodied and lacking on the palate. (1121 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 10/2/2013 & rated 86 points: Medium purple color. Lots of fresh plums and blackberries, inky but also very floral. Creamy texture, the plum and black cherry fruit tastes fresh and juicy. Some vanilla and mocha, but also some serious pepper and sweet barbecue sauce. Not life-changing, but solid stuff for the price. Man, that pepper lingers. (1097 views)

One of the most significant wineries in McLaren Vale founded in 1912. The winemaking processes of the past have been maintained, capturing the unique small-batch character of the wines and the true flavour of the McLaren Vale region. All grapes, red and white, are basket-pressed. The reds are still traditionally fermented with the grape skins (caps) submerged in open wax-lined concrete fermenters utilising the age-old technique of foot-treading.

Winemaking duties are carried out by fourth-generation Chester d’Arenberg Osborn. In June 2004 Chester’s father, d’Arry was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for his contributions to the wine industry and to the McLaren Vale region. After more than 65 consecutive vintages d’Arry is very proud of his achievements in creating an internationally recognised wine brand commonly known as the ‘Red Stripe’ due to the distinctive diagonal red stripe that adorns the label. d’Arenberg’s art of being different extends to a range of fortified and dessert wines, which have legendary status worldwide.
