Tasted by rexmerlot on 12/27/2022 & rated 90 points: Drank over several nights. Got better each night. Still drinking well. (662 views)
Tasted by joncohen on 6/17/2013 & rated 90 points: Dense purple color, minimal bricking, with viscous legs and medium weight in the glass. Blackberry and raspberry aromas, followed by high menthol (possibly from the alcohol heat) and white pepper spice notes. Presents on the palate with initial brambly blackberry up front, with cassis and a hint of cedar wood (doesn't come across as oaky, however); on the midpalate there's a continuation of the berry fruit, but with a nicely complementary acid component. Plush texture with medium to big weight in the mouth, and a long, long finish. While it doesn't have the structure/tannins to come across like a big CA Cab, I would not say this wine is subtle or nuanced. It is decidedly New World in the sense that it leads with its fruit, but the fruit is also effectively balanced by acid, and works well with the texture. This is not Ridge's most distinctive offering, but it is a solid and well put together package that punches significantly above its price point. Would go well with many different foods (though it requires something with sufficient richness to avoid getting buried). (4654 views)
Tasted by Watchaholic on 12/1/2012 & rated 89 points: Perfect timing....
The wine looks Garnet colored. The legs are Medium. It smells like and Blackberry. It tastes like Cedar, Clove, and Cool/Menthol. The body is Medium. The wine has Juicy texture. The wine finishes Short. (4967 views)
Tasted by lumpkins on 11/23/2011 & rated 86 points: easy drinking, medium bodied with black fruit & spice notes. (5743 views)
Tasted by Winecat on 9/3/2011 & rated 88 points: Good Zin blend. Paired well with cajun salmon as well as filet mignon. Fruity with a hint of spice. (5482 views)
Tasted by tfesmgk on 1/10/2011 & rated 89 points: Very nice zin blend for the money. Good fruit forward without much zin spice. (5456 views)
Tasted by goodbertgrapes on 12/5/2010 & rated 90 points: Very good. Lots of fruit, dark plum blackberry, and rhubarb. Earth, balanced with mod heat. Very good (3157 views)
Tasted by vertex663 on 6/22/2010 & rated 88 points: Not your usual zin. Berry on the nose with flavors of cassis, oak, and and blackberry. Medium finish. Looking forward to the next bottle, but won't wait too long. I'd say drink now or soon. (2954 views)
Tasted by Ombibulous on 5/28/2010 & rated 84 points: I liked this wine. But I could not finish the bottle. Good, but requires two or more drinkers. (83.5). (2715 views)
Tasted by h2o on 4/17/2010 & rated 90 points: very good with indian spiced braised beef ribs (2815 views)
Tasted by agentorange on 4/29/2009 & rated 90 points: Nose: black cherry, creamy black raspberry, cassis, lilac, spice box and black pepper. Taste: fruit explosion of plum, raspberry etc. Hint of mint. Very long finish. Might be a little bit hot. (3313 views)
Tasted by sleepyhaus on 12/3/2008 & rated 88 points: Nice bottle of wine that has made me rethink my Zin position somewhat. Medium hue, and medium body. Lovely floral nose upon opening that, unfortunately, subsided after some time, but the nose remained nice.
Palate was very medium, with berry and just a hint of that Zin briar.
Nicely restrained, but perhaps just a bit too much so. Could have used a bit more umph.
Main complaint is still one of varietal, that Zin has a lot of flavor but lacks the structure of the wines I prefer so it seems a bit sloppy.
Still well made, a nice introduction to Ridge and a nice reintroduction to Zin that will make me consider climbing that ladder. (3584 views)
Tasted by Arch57 on 8/23/2008 & rated 89 points: I have always had good luck with Ridge and this was no exception. Shared this with friends outside on a warm August evening. This wine was full of flavors oak, berries, spices that were not dominated by one but rather a wonderful blend of both scent and taste. Nice ripe fruit that shone through on the palate and lingered, making you want to take another sip. It was tough to keep the glasses full and everyone enjoyed this. Nice job at this price point, about 33% less than their single vineyard efforts but offering some choice fruit in the blend. (3665 views)
Tasted by sweetstuff on 7/11/2008 & rated 90 points: 2005 Ridge Three Valleys - USA, California, Sonoma County (7/11/2008)

TN:Ridge 2005 California Sonoma County Three Valleys (Lytton Springs and Dry Creek Valley, two-thirds; Alexander Valley from Nervo, Mazzoni, Buchignani, Charmichael, and Stone Ranch vineyards, about one-third, and a very small amount of Sonoma Valley fruit from Pagani Vineyard.) The varieties are 74 percent Zinfandel, 13 percent Petit Sirah, 8 percent Carignane, 3 percent grenache; and 2 percent Mataro. Kroger, Troy, OH; $29/750 ml.

Cork-finished; a dusky bricky-purple.

A very juicy style, with the Zin berry fruit underlain with leather, smoke and spice and even a little cocoa.

Fruit is lively and again juicy but has a nice juicy tartness; leaves a sweet impression on the finish that has nothing, I belive, to do with residual sugar.

A highly gulpable, enjoyable summertime wine, whose very ripe tannins do their job but are as unobtrusive as those of a 1986 Gruaud-Larose upon release. Plenty of energy shown by vibrancy on the sides of the tongue. Obviously selected from fruit that will drink better young; a good choice of material and a good call for the blenders. A joy.

Tasted by TimF on 7/6/2008 & rated 87 points: A very pleasant nose of dark fruit and a hint of asian spice. More dark fruit on the palate and a little white pepper. A decent amount of oak. A medium-long finish with silky tannins. A nice basic zin. (4271 views)
Tasted by Foster on 6/2/2008: Nice but somewhat simple. Dark and fruit forward, I get mainly blackberry with good weight and mouth feel. Some pepper on the finish and a little heat from the alcohol. Overall good value and pleasant. (4080 views)
Tasted by thirtyoneknots on 5/23/2008: Writing this note some 5 hours after opening, still going strong. Dark jammy fruit and blueberry (presumably from the petite sirah) with a touch of white pepper, a touch of licorice, and a fair bit of oak, but not excessive. Signature Ridge goodness, much enjoyed and appreciated for good value. Nice accompaniment to braised short ribs and ratatouille. (4095 views)
Tasted by raydawgone on 5/9/2008 & rated 92 points: Eldeberry, blueberry and hint of cocoa. Nice, smooth taste. Highly recommended, would rank it up there with other Zins that cost twice as much. (1715 views)
Tasted by mozart23 on 4/21/2008: A nice entry level zin. Nothing special and an easy drinker. Would probably taste better if it weren't for my cold :( (4449 views)
Tasted by wineswiller on 4/10/2008 & rated 87 points: Ruby colored, clear. Nose of spice, red berry fruit. Fruit-forward red berry fruit on the palate with a nice amount of white pepper on the front, and vanilla spice. Pretty well balanced. Tannins were moderate. Medium-length finish. Not a big red, more medium-bodied, softer, and finessed as zins go. I'd buy again at this price point, though I'd also want to take a step up with some of this producer's other more expensive wines. (4283 views)
Tasted by greenwalter on 4/10/2008 & rated 88 points: Dark fruit and a little candy on the nose. Plum, some oaky sweetness, and some licorice. Good body and grip. A little hot. Solid, not exciting, but good QPR. I would hold my next bottle a year or two. (4282 views)
Tasted by apnetmedic on 3/14/2008 & rated 88 points: A good zin (mostly). Good balance, soft tannins, nice finish. Not the most complicated glass in the world, but I don't expect it to be. Agree with comments about the 2nd pour being better. (4327 views)
Tasted by ColinR on 3/9/2008 & rated 91 points: Deep garnet; black cherries, floral, cedar; kirsch liquor, ripe brambly fruit, creamy, medium-full body, good balance, soft ripe tannins, lingering finish.
Rich, well-blended unique flavours. Ridge is one of my Cali faves. (4265 views)

Tasted by MattyMatt on 12/4/2007 & rated 90 points: Dark fruits with lots of blueberries, blackberries and some cherries. A great QPR. (4660 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
