Tasted by wineismylife on 7/21/2015 & rated 91 points: WIML91

Tasted non blind.

Garnet to dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of rubber tire, cardamom, black berries and dark plums. Flavors of raspberries and tangy cherries. Tart acidity, medium to firm tannin, full bodied. Drink with air or hold. (1986 views)
Tasted by ken-yyz on 1/16/2015 & rated 89 points: A delicious Pinot that is holding strong after nearly 10 years. Great fruit with a small touch of spice. Dark red fruits - maybe a little blue as well. Not much on the nose but lots of stuffing. Very nice. (1712 views)
Tasted by iamandyc on 5/13/2012 & rated 91 points: Agree with JOJ comments. Evolvong nicely in the glass. The strawberry jam or sweet-tart quality throws me off a little. Hope that subsides on day two. Lots of fresh acid and a myriad of red fruits, citrus and spices. Very interesting wine (2916 views)
Tasted by JOJ on 3/11/2012 & rated 94 points: This really has evolved into a nice wine. On the nice, orange peel, Asian spice, flowers, cranberry, and cinnamon. Palate explodes with cherry, citrus, and cranberry, with notes of wet rock and sweet tarts. Tannin still present, with nice counterbalancing acidity. Bravo. (3047 views)
Tasted by rjoyer on 5/27/2011: Popped, poured and followed over 4 hours thus far (still have about half a bottle left). Plenty of tea spices and even more of the tell-tale pink grapefruit aromas on the nose to tell you you're drinking Rosella's fruit. The palate is a little sharp and angular, but the black cherry and plumb-skinned fruit is clean, ripe, fresh and spritely...which I like. She finishes a little sweet and with a mildly alcoholic kick (14.1%abv)...which I don't like. Not overly complex, but more than kept my interest. Nice, but I'm not upset that I drank my 1 and only bottle purchased on release. (3333 views)
Tasted by ARiverofPisoni on 4/30/2011 & rated 91 points: Nice bottle of wine... lots of fruit, enough acid left... velvet mouthfeel... cranberry... a bit cloudy. (2181 views)
Tasted by dsimmons on 11/1/2010 & rated 90 points: very enjoyable pinot with baked king salmon. (1652 views)
Tasted by ARiverofPisoni on 8/27/2010 & rated 90 points: Holding up nicely... velvet mouthfeel.. slightly cloudy, cranberry finish , still plenty bright. (1773 views)
Tasted by thomaskeil on 4/19/2010 & rated 90 points: PnP. Garnet. Nose of red fruit, baking spice, touch of citrus and earth. Velvety texture with spiny acidity. Medium intensity red fruit with spice and hint of grapefruit. Was quite nice with smokehouse pork chops sent to us from Skip. (1953 views)
Tasted by dsimmons on 1/17/2010 & rated 91 points: Delicious with salmon (2078 views)
Tasted by caboychuck on 12/5/2009: So nice. Citrus zest and red berries. No notes taken, but it did stick out in my mind. (2045 views)
Tasted by pjhr on 8/22/2009 & rated 93 points: A lovely classic Siduri! Drinking great now! (750ml) (2317 views)
Tasted by BonnieM on 6/25/2009: Lovely Pinot nose, ripe fruit, drinking nicely now but no rush. (2381 views)
Tasted by gutt22 on 6/18/2009: 14.1% alcohol. As ever, a lovely wine. Bright cherry color. Nose is classic Rosella's and really coming into its own: black cherry, blackberry, that unique grapefruit note, and a hint of spice. In the mouth, linear and pure, with a certain degree of lushness that hints at the texture to come with a few more years in bottle. Fruit-forward all the way, with a bit of restraint showing still. It's youthful, to be sure, but it is starting to unwind. Should really be hitting stride in 12-18 months. A- (2364 views)
Tasted by pjhr on 6/18/2009 & rated 93 points: Drinking great now! (750ml) (2457 views)
Tasted by pjhr on 5/19/2009 & rated 92 points: As tasty as the last bottle, but with more white pepper and grapefruit notes on the finish. (2562 views)
Tasted by jdiv on 3/22/2009: Thought this might be problematic on opening, a bit dark and heavy tasting, and perhaps a hint of heat. But I decanted and let it open for an hour or so while keeping fairly cool, and it really showed very nicely. I would call it a mix of red and dark fruits, good acidity/lift and yes that Rosellas grapefruit - quite pronounced. In all quite a good wine from an area I no longer seek out for pinot. I have to figure out if it was just 03 and 04 that turned me off to SLH - 05 and 06 might get me trying it again. (3012 views)
Tasted by shaneajohnson on 3/19/2009 & rated 92 points: Consistent with earlier note, but the secondary vs. primary ratio has increased. Still has life left. (2620 views)
Tasted by sdatl on 2/13/2009 & rated 89 points: Somewhat funky aroma at opening, but the fruit came through after some air; dark cherry and berry flavors, with dark earth providing structure; the wine has a very raipe and vevelty taste and texture and is definitely on the darker/riper end of the Pinot spectrum; brighter acidity would be nice. Drink now -- it is starting to age. (2621 views)
Tasted by bistro on 1/4/2009 & rated 88 points: Nice length and finish, but not much fruit. (2645 views)
Tasted by D.Callahan on 11/19/2008 & rated 87 points: Slightly funky nose but well balanced cranberry, cherry flavor. Light bodied. (2783 views)
Tasted by shaneajohnson on 10/21/2008 & rated 92 points: Overall, fantastic. Med--ruby in the glass. Nose of dark red/black fruit, cedar, spice. Palate is rich and well balanced. Just a gorgeous wine. (2772 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 10/4/2008 & rated 91 points: Pinot Tasting with John Winthrop Haeger to celebrate the release of Pacific Pinot Noir (WineBank, Menlo Park, California): Light medium red color; earthy red fruit nose; nice, Burgundian, tart red fruit, cherry palate; medium finish (3494 views)
Tasted by gutt22 on 7/5/2008: 14.1% alcohol. This has been one of my favorites from the strong crop of Siduri 2005s since the beginning, and it remains that today. Bright red color, clear at the rim of the glass. Beautiful bouquet of black cherry, blackberry, spice, flowers, and a signature hint of Rosella's grapefruit. Elegant, concentrated, smooth, and fulfilling in the mouth. Loads of fruit backed up by terrific complexity. Excellent acidity. A long, soothing finish that just sails on. A very pretty wine, which is only going to keep getting better with age.

Tasted by JOJ on 6/21/2008 & rated 89 points: Nose of pinot funk, earth, pie crust, and black cherry. Nicely balanced palate features cherries, raspberry, and brambles. Better with air and (oddly) as it warmed. (2889 views)

Pinot Noir

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Jura, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Romania, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.

Pinot Noir is one of the world's most prestigious grapes. It is very difficult to grow and thrives well in France, especially in Champagne and Burgundy. Pinot Noir thrives less in hot areas, is picky on soil, and deserves some oak storage.

Pinot Noir, or Blauburgunder / Spätburgunder in German, is a blue grapevine - and, as the German name suggests, the grape comes originally from Burgundy in France.

The grape, which thrives in calcareous soils, is used primarily for the production of red wine, and it is widely regarded as producing some of the best wines in the world. The wine style is often medium-bodied with high fruit acidity and soft tannins. It can be quite peculiar in fragrance and taste, and not least in structure - which may be why it is referred to as "The Grapes Ballerina".
Pinot Noir is also an important ingredient in sparkling wines, not least in champagne since it is fruity, has good acidity and contains relatively little tannins.
The grape is considered quite demanding to grow. The class itself consists of tightly packed grapes, which makes it more sensitive to rot and other diseases.

Pinot Noir changes quite easily and is genetically unstable. It buds and matures early which results in it often being well ripened. Climate is important for this type of grape. It likes best in cool climates - in warm climates the wines can be relaxed and slightly pickled.
In cooler climates, the wine can get a hint of cabbage and wet leaves, while in slightly warmer regions we often find notes of red berries (cherries, strawberries, raspberries, currants), roses and slightly green notes when the wine is young. With age, more complex aromas of forest floor, fungi and meat emerge.

In Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary, it often produces light wines with less character. However, it has produced very good results in California, Oregon and New Zealand.

With its soft tannins and delicate aroma, it is excellent for white fish, chicken and light meat. For the stored wines you can serve small game. Classic duck breast is a matter of course, a Boeuf Burgundy and Pinot Noir are pure happiness.

Pinot Noir loses quality by over-harvesting.
Pinot Noir is prone to diseases, especially rot and mildew. Viruses cause major problems especially in Burgundy.
Pinot Noir are large round grapes with thin skins. Relatively high in alcohol content. Medium rich tannins and good with acid.
As a young person, Pinot Noir has a distinctly fruity character such as raspberries, cherries and strawberries.
A mature Pinot Noir, the taste is different. Cherry goes into plum and prune flavors. It smells of rotten leaves, coffee, moist forest floor and animal wine. This must be experienced.
In warm climates you find boiled plum, some rustic, little acid.
If the grapes are over-grown, the wine will be thin, with little color and flavor.

Rosella's Vineyard

In 1996, Gary Franscioni planted the 50-acre Rosella’s Vineyard, named for his wife, on their estate property just 1½ miles north of Garys’ Vineyard in the Santa Lucia Highlands Appellation of Monterey County. We have been sourcing grapes from this vineyard site since 2005 and believe that Rosella’s Vineyard, with Gary Franscioni’s exceptional farming practices, produces a unique wine representing the best of the Santa Lucia Highlands. Santa Lucia Highlands has proven to be a world class appellation, and we are proud to offer a wine from this great vineyard.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
