Community Tasting Notes (average 90 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 59 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Beachfan on 3/9/2024 & rated 92 points: Shocked that I liked it . More like a beaucastel blanc. Pnp, tasted half its age. (154 views)
Tasted by Christine Havens on 3/24/2017 & rated 90 points: Yesterday I was treated to a wonderful vertical of older vintage Tablas Creek Vineyard Esprit de Tablas Blanc, the 2003 was holding up admirably. Indeed, they all were. A blend of 68% Roussanne, 27% Grenache blanc, and 5% Viognier—aged to a deep yellow, the color of daffodils, and bursting with aromas of bruised pear, golden delicious apple, cherimoya, forest honey and more evolved notes of Stargazer lily and walnut skins. Languid and silky on entry, with a core of dried apricot and a calcareous mineral spine. (2294 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 11/26/2014 & rated 91 points: WIML91

Tasted non blind.

Yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of sulfur, yellow pears and yellow apples. Flavors of yellow pears, yellow apples and minerals. Light to medium acidity, medium to full bodied. Drink now. (3634 views)
Tasted by subir on 10/10/2014 & rated 90 points: Like drinking 12 karat gold. Slate, wet stone, lemon zest on the nose. Medium bodied with medium to high acidity. Ideal with sushi (3381 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 9/18/2012 & rated 92 points: Light golden yellow color; ripe pear, pineapple, light ginger nose; creamy textured, medium bodied, tart pear, light ginger, tart peach, mineral palate; medium-plus finish (68% Roussanne, 27% Grenache Blanc, 5% Viognier) (1010 views)
Tasted by CallahanCellar on 8/3/2012 & rated 91 points: Burnished gold color. Full-bodied. A nice mature white. (4811 views)
Tasted by Vino Me on 3/7/2012 & rated 89 points: CWM dinner with Paul & Stefania (Macchu Picchu Restaurant, Chicago, IL.): Yellow straw color. Very little sign of age in this 9 year old wine. Vanilla cream notes. A little oak but nothing that would throw this wine out of balance. 89-90 points. (4399 views)
Tasted by thelostverse on 3/7/2012 & rated 91 points: VM brought this to CWM dinner at Machu Picchu. I think WS missed the mark on this one as this had wonderful floral and citrus notes. Really coming to appreciate Grenache Blanc. (4620 views)
Tasted by stevetimko on 2/11/2010: I had this several years ago an dit's evolved quite a bit. The first time I had it the roussanne was dominant and showed itself with a nose of tropical fruits and some honey. The nose is much more complex now with other white fruits and some spice along with quite a bit of nuttiness. And the grenache blanc is stronger on the palate. The spice really shows through now. Good finish. This was from a 375ml so I'm guessing a regular bottle has years left. (3010 views)
Tasted by vanpe003 on 1/18/2010 & rated 88 points: I had to wait a bit to jot some notes on this, because it was a really poor pairing with Chicken Tortilla soup (with lots of Chipolte) which served caused the palate to come across with alcohol heat and minimal fruit.. I love the nose - deep fruits, orange, a bit of creme brulee. Much the same on the palate, but with just a shade less concentration than the nose might suggest. Nice oily mouthfeel, but still seems to come across with just a touch of heat. Though manageable, this reduces my score by a couple points. I like this, but at the end of the day, it's a disappointment given how good this wine (in other vintages) can be when it's "on". (2878 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 7/4/2009 & rated 93 points: Light medium greenish yellow color; lovely floral, elegant, refined citrus nose; very tasty, sculptured, tart apple, mineral, chalky palate; medium-plus finish (1712 views)
Tasted by mjf@ulkner on 9/8/2008 & rated 88 points: Honeysuckle and citrus on nose. Very spicy mid palate with heat on the finish. The subtlety this wine once had is fading fast. (2679 views)
Tasted by spts1000 on 9/5/2008 & rated 89 points: very good as expected. it is much more subdued than most of the American blends i have had. i dont find this to be a problem. nice mouth feel. a little waxy taste.like this one on the warmer side to enjoy the subtle characteristics. (2557 views)
Tasted by vanpe003 on 9/5/2008: I didn't care for this bottle at all. Perhaps it was slightly off. It was incomparable to the 2002 served the night before. Would have scored this one mid to high 80s. (2665 views)
Tasted by monzell on 6/23/2008 & rated 89 points: Thick, unctuous, subtly tropical. A bit alcoholic. (2960 views)
Tasted by mjf@ulkner on 4/23/2008 & rated 89 points: Golden yellow. Honey, floral nose. Drinking really well right now. Actually resembles a northern Rhone in its oily, waxy, sort of way-just the lacks the secondary complexities which make those so great. (2910 views)
Tasted by DenisLee on 3/9/2008: Don't drink this too cold. It was very closed at fridge temp. It opened up very slowly, and was drinking nicely at close to room temp. at which point is was all but gone. Very light and understated. I think I remember drinking another one of these and having the same experience. (2976 views)
Tasted by DianeR on 3/9/2008 & rated 88 points: Very good wine. Good balance of the grenache blanc, the marsanne, and the viognier, with a distinctive orange peel note on the nose. A well-balanced blend, but one which I would drink now (or within the next year). Good match for the fish at Oceanaire. (3140 views)
Tasted by Siggy on 3/9/2008: Tasting Group Dinner - Miscellaneous Whites (Ocenaire, Minneapolis): Thick and ripe. Floral nose. Flavors of melon, orange peel, and tropical fruit. Thick and sweet, clearly from very ripe fruit. Slightly soapy/waxy mouthfeel. A touch of heat on the finish. (3615 views)
Tasted by tskrueger on 2/16/2008 & rated 89 points: No real notes, but a really nice wine. (3273 views)
Tasted by indiscriminate palate on 2/8/2008 & rated 89 points: Beautiful gold color. Nose of honey, lemon, sugar, notes of tropical fruit. The nose revealed little at colder temperatures, then became quite captivating. Flavors less exciting, with waxy texture, sweet lemon, some lingering minerality, but some alcohol and tinniness on the mid-palate. (3010 views)
Tasted by Paul S on 1/18/2008 & rated 87 points: At a Tablas Creek tsating. Good but not great. A nice aromatic nose of honeysuckle, golden kiwi and some citrus notes - very lovely and inviting. The palate was however a little bit more subdued, the Rousanne waxy texture and some alcohol heat were the first things to hit me. Some tropical fruit notes, citrus again, good acid kick, shortish finish. Competent and tasty, but not terribly exciting a wine. I expect a little more at its price point. Scoring may be harsh - but I suspect this wine needs some food to really bring out its qualities. (3366 views)
Tasted by spts1000 on 12/11/2007 & rated 89 points: very just not great. first served too cold and when it warmed up it got much better. all in all i will buy this every year. (3184 views)
Tasted by Wayne Richmon on 9/25/2007 & rated 91 points: Delicious croud pleaser at a bargain price. (3469 views)
Tasted by WST on 6/27/2007 & rated 91 points: Honey and spice, some citrus and melon notes. Dense in texture but not syrupy; honeyed but not terribly sweet. A great match for Matar Paneer. (3342 views)

Tablas Creek

Producer website
Tablas Creek Vineyard, founded by the Perrin family of Chateau de Beaucastel and Robert Haas of Vineyard Brands, is dedicated to growing grape varieties traditional to France's Rhone Valley. The partners chose hilly western Paso Robles for its limestone soils, rugged terrain, and ocean influence. All Tablas Creek wines are estate grown using environmentally sustainable practices.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
