Has mellowed over the years but still comes across as over-oaked and over-extracted. FYI - Stored in a professional storage unit. Based on past tastings at the winery (during pick up parties) this appears to be the winemaker's style. Not looking forward to the last bottle. (1137 views)

Pop and pour, these notes are an hour after initially opening.

Fruit is in the background; whether in a dumb phase, faded or an off bottle is unknown. While the soft, dry tannins are clearly more powerful, the imbalance isn’t problematic, it’s just unusual for QC.
Still a great pairing with Home-ground burgers and home baked buns!

2.5 hrs after opening the tannins have really faded and this is now fruit-driven, with red cherry, rhubarb. Still enjoyable, but I’ll knock a point off of my original 90 rating. (1081 views)

Purchased from the winery on release. Heavy oak and high alcohol have taken this in an unfortunate direction eight and a half years on. Almost opaque, over-extracted, seriously over-oaked, no fruit or acidity, strong vanilla on the nose and palate, 15.2% alc. (from Washington state), silty, a small amount of sediment. Another solid bottle bites the dust. Opened last night and recorked after drinking a few glasses. The air time softened some of the edges on this but stripped some of the fruit, as expected. Had a great experience night 1 and a solid experience the 2nd. Night 2 the nose is a little soft with some of the berry aromas dissipated. Great balance overall, I believe the drinking window goes longer than my original 2017 thoughts - 2020+? (2543 views)

Incredibly smooth and well-integrated right out of the bottle. Needs no air whatsoever - must have confused another wine with this in my prior note. Mountain fruit has a rich, dark nose, mouthfeel is a lush satin of dark berry, black cherry, - maybe the approachable aspects of this bottle reflects bottle variation, as this seems more like a 7+ year old merlot than other bottles of this or other QC blends. Palate is mouth coating with dark ripe berry, hints of oak, berry syrup. Finish showing some structure and composition, but overall very singular in the fruit department. Tasted alongside a 2011 and 2012 QC CVR and a 2011 Fidelitas Ciel du Cheval Cab Sauv. This wine was everyone's least favorite in the QC group. It seemed more acidic and a bit more disjointed than the 2011 and 2012, just a bit more out of balance. As I wrote in my note for the 2012, it is amazing how consistent these wines are from vintage to vintage (broadly speaking), but it was fun to taste the subtle differences. This had a little bit brighter of a fruit profile than the 2011, but it seemed like this might need more time than the 2012 before it presents a harmonious ensemble. (3223 views)

Consumption over one week thru Coravin. Dark ruby color, thick and rich appearance. Nose is ample and rich, showing an array with weight towards black fruit, stewed berry, grape gum, with secondary hints of herb, forest, and pine. Super concentrated palate of ripe black fruit, grape gum, and cocoa/mocha followed by notes of evergreen, menthol, pine and burnt sugar. Very heady and weighty, extreme new world which I am typically not fond of, but knowing the Quilceda first label, and what those wines are capable of, this wine has merits and a complexity that is hard to argue with. Age may dull this wine, as the explosiveness will only fade, and the acid is not present to support evolution. Drink in near term. (3178 views)

This wine is as big as an aircraft carrier. We decanted six hours prior to dinner of filet, baked potatoes, and mixed veggies. Dark, sappy purple color. Extremely hot and oaky nose of candied strawberries and cherries that mellowed with air. Palate follows with gobs of dark fruit, black currant, and oak but is reasonably balanced and extremely well-textured. There are scattered notes of funk, earth, and dirt, but they are fleeting. Overall, at 15.2% alcohol this proves you can still somehow make a balanced wine, but it also proves you can purposefully make a "big" wine in a very cool vintage, which begs the question why Quilceda would do such a thing. Oh well, admittedly, it is nice to indulge in a well made fruit bomb now and then. Drink 2015-2030. Merry Christmas. (3073 views)

2010 Quilceda Creek Red Wine Columbia Valley (USA, Washington, Columbia Valley) 10/26/2013T.E.D.91

Nose of dark berry, somewhat restrained and tight, hint of tar and menthol as well. Palate had medium complexity, giving way to additional pepper, tar, and blueberry. Concentration was good for price. Alcohol was there and somewhat cloying. Def needs some age. (3176 views)

2010 Quilceda Creek Red Wine Columbia Valley (USA, Washington, Columbia Valley) 10/9/2013bjamesclark92

Dark garnet color, deep and opaque through the core. A thick ridge set after the swirl with legs slowly forming and falling revealing high-moderate viscosity. High concentration and day bright reflections.
After air time currant, cherry, coffee and spice aromas upfront with brambly aromas, bay leaf and pencil shavings.
The palate is (as expected) wound a little tight, yet approachable. Flavors of cherry, currants, herbs, coffee and chocolate with drying dusty tannins, and bright crisp acidity that is moderate+. the finish lingers with strength and finesse lingering on vanilla-oak tones.
Cant wait to see how this evolves. (3604 views)

Opened a bottle to try the new release now that it's in market. Delicious, balanced and intetegrated. Excellent blend of fruit, tannins and acids. Powerful wine, but not over the top. Fruit is ripe, but not overripe. Excellent example of WA red wine. PDQ93 (3828 views)

Friends and I tasted this at the 3/17/13 release. It had an elegant, slightly reserved bouquet of cassis, black cherry, cedar, vanilla and spice aromas. The palate was rich and subtle with nicely balanced acidity…flavors of cassis, black cherry, vanilla and spice. 91+ (4730 views)
